Candidates for the Specialized Health Training (FormaciĆ³n Sanitaria Especializada, FSE) can now mark their calendars for the next exam date: the MIR, EIR, FIR, and PIR exams will take place on January 25, 2025. This announcement was made by the Human Resources Commission of the National Health System (SNS), led by MĆ³nica GarcĆa, which also confirmed a 2.9% increase in available positions for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Since 2018, the Ministry of Health has significantly increased the number of positions in the Specialized Health Training program by over 40%. For 2025, there will be 11,943 spots available for new residents in fields such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Psychology, and Biology. This growth includes 235 additional residents for Medicine and 63 for Nursing. However, there will be a decrease in available positions for Biology and Chemistry. The distribution of positions is as follows:
- Medicine: 9,007 spots (+3%)
- Nursing: 2,171 spots (+3%)
- Pharmacy: 352 spots (+4%)
- Psychology: 274 spots (+11%)
- Biology: 63 spots (-3%)
- Physics: 51 spots (+11%)
- Chemistry: 25 spots (-7%)
Out of these positions, 836 (7%) will be reserved for individuals with disabilities of 33% or more. Additionally, non-EU applicants without residency permits can apply for 901 spots in Medicine (10%), 4 in Pharmacy (1%), and 22 in Nursing (1%).
Among the specializations, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry field will see the most significant increase, with a 60% rise in available positions, going from 30 to 48 for the 2025 recruitment. Following it are Legal and Forensic Medicine, which will increase by 42% (from 12 to 17), and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which will offer 40 positions (14% increase). Family and Community Medicine will have 2,508 positions available (1% increase), while Family and Community Nursing will offer 919 positions (up by 3%).
All entrance exams are slated for January 25, 2025, in line with the usual schedule, allowing new graduates from medical schools to join the Specialized Health Training program as soon as possible.
The application period will open on Monday, September 2 at 10:00 AM and will close on Friday, September 16 at 5:00 PM. Foreign applicants will still need to demonstrate a C1 level of Spanish proficiency, provided their home country does not primarily speak the language or it is not their mother tongue.
Exam fees will be set at 31.10 euros, except for Nursing, which will charge 23.33 euros. Notably, this year, the cut-off score and minimum passing grade have been eliminated: anyone scoring above zero can participate in the allocation process. However, those scoring zero or negative will be disqualified.
