Municipality Announces Free Electronic DNI Process on July 25 for Seniors in Rímac

In various districts of Metropolitan Lima, campaigns are currently underway to offer free electronic DNI (National Identity Document) to residents. The primary goal of these initiatives is to bridge the identification gaps among community members and ensure that more people can access this crucial document.

The electronic DNI stands out for its robust security features, providing a reliable tool for individuals while enhancing the efficiency of administrative processes. This simplification helps people manage numerous everyday tasks more easily.

In response to the growing need for accessibility, the Municipality of Rímac has launched an initiative to provide free electronic DNIs this Thursday, July 25, specifically targeting citizens from vulnerable groups.

The Rímac Municipality, in collaboration with the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec), has announced a campaign aimed at individuals over the age of 60. The services offered include photo updates, renewals due to loss or damage, changes of address (with proof of utility bill for updating), and free photos.

Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the Cultural and Tourist Center located at Jirón Chiclayo No. 591, between 9 AM and 1 PM.

It’s important to note that there are only 120 slots available for this campaign. Therefore, potential applicants should arrive early to secure their spot, as demand tends to be high and fills up quickly. Additionally, it is crucial to bring all necessary documents and meet the requirements for the process.

In Moquegua, the Municipality of the Chen Chen Town Center has announced a free electronic DNI initiative for Wednesday, July 24 (12:30 PM to 4 PM) and Thursday, July 25 (8:30 AM to 3 PM). This program is tailored for minors aged 0 to 16 years and those who are 17 years old requiring a blue document. Services available include correction, renewal, registration, and duplication.

For those looking to participate, the requirements include providing a passport-sized photo with a white background. Parents must accompany their children and present their own DNI as well.

The benefits of the electronic DNI include enhanced security measures that protect against fraud and identity theft, enabling online transactions with various state and private entities, and international recognition for travel to Andean Community member countries. Additionally, it includes a digital signature that holds the same validity as a handwritten signature for electronic documents.

As for the costs associated with obtaining the electronic DNI, they vary based on individual circumstances. For instance, the first issuance for individuals over 17 years old costs S/41, while for those over 20 without a prior DNI, the fee is S/47. Naturalized Peruvians may pay S/44 if they possess a naturalization title.

For anyone interested in the process of obtaining their electronic DNI, the following steps should be followed:

  • Payment: Pay S/41 through authorized agents or via pagalo.pe. Keep the receipt.
  • Gather Documentation: Assemble required documents, including a registration card, certified copy of birth certificate, recent utility bill (no older than six months), and an up-to-date passport-sized photo.
  • Visit Reniec: Go to a designated Reniec center that issues electronic DNIs and submit your documents. You will receive a ticket for tracking your application, which can also be checked on the Reniec website.
  • Check Application Status: Ensure your application is filed correctly; processing usually takes about ten business days.
  • Collect Your DNIe: Once ready, pick it up from the location where you applied.

These initiatives are crucial in ensuring that all individuals have access to identification, promoting social inclusion and civic engagement.
