Barrington Stage Company (BSC) has announced the casting and creative teams for its upcoming 2024-2025 season, marking the theatre’s 30th anniversary. Among the highlights is the much-anticipated production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Next to Normal,” set to run from August 13 to September 8. The production will feature Natalie Joy Johnson in the lead role of Diana, a character that has become iconic in the world of musical theatre.

Natalie Joy Johnson, known for her role in “Lempicka,” will bring her talents to the BSC stage, promising a powerful performance. She will be joined by BSC Associate Artist Alan H. Green, who will play Dan. Green is recognized for his work in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The cast also includes Adante Carter as Gabe, Madison McBride as Natalie, Ben Clark as Henry, and Joseph Morales as Dr. Madden.

“Next to Normal” is a deeply emotional musical that explores the complexities of mental illness and its impact on a suburban family. The musical features a book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. The production will be directed by BSC Artistic Director Alan Paul, who is also overseeing the choreography by Eamon John Foley. Dold as Robert, Christopher Innvar as Bernard, Debra Jo Rupp as Berthe, Gisela Chipe as Gloria, Stephanie Jean Lane as Gabriella, and Kate MacCluggage as Gretchen. The production will feature scenic design by Kristen Robinson, costume design by BSC Associate Artist Sarah Jean Tosetti, lighting design by BSC Associate Artist David Lander, and sound design by Fabian Obispo.

Another highlight of the season is the regional premiere of Ben Power’s “A Tender Thing,” running from June 25 to July 20. Directed by Alan Paul, the cast includes Derek Smith as Romeo and Candy Buckley as Juliet. The production will feature scenic design by Marsha Ginsberg, costume design by Ricky Reynoso, lighting design by Robert Weizel, and sound design and music by Fabian Obispo. Movement is by Mayte Natalio, with Lisa Beley serving as the voice and text consultant, and Jason Brouillard as the production stage manager.

The world premiere of Mark St. Germain’s “Forgiveness” will run from July 30 to August 25, directed by Ron Lagomarsino. The cast includes Joey Collins, Darlene Hope, Caesar Samayoa, and Peggy Pharr Wilson. The creative team features scenic designer Brian Prather, costume designer Dina El-Aziz, lighting designer Reza Behjat, sound designer Brendan Aanes, and production stage manager Leslie Sears. “Forgiveness” is commissioned by BSC’s Sydelle Blatt New Works Fund.

The season will also include “La Cage aux Folles,” directed by Mike Donahue and running from June 11 to July 6, and the regional premiere of Eboni Booth’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Primary Trust,” running from September 18 to October 13, directed by Jennifer Chang. Casting for these productions will be announced at a later date.

BSC’s 30th anniversary season promises to be a celebration of diverse and compelling theatre, featuring a mix of classic and contemporary works.
