Natalie Portman prefers to stay away from characters that reflect her own life experiences. The 43-year-old actress has spent decades in front of the camera and even won an Oscar for her work in film. However, after playing the ambitious housewife turned journalist, Maddie Schwartz, in the upcoming series "Lady in the Lake," which revolves around her character solving the mystery of a black waiter and a young Jewish woman’s murder, she admitted that she likes to keep her own personality reserved for when the cameras aren’t rolling.
She shared her thoughts, explaining, "I don’t like to compare my personality with that of a character because I make a significant effort to choose roles that have experiences very different from my own. If it’s something I live in my own life, I prefer to save it for real life and try out things I wouldn’t do myself. I think it was quite different. It was interesting to explore that well of frustration that explodes and overflows because it has been held back for so long."
Natalie recently revealed that if her life hadn’t taken a turn towards the entertainment industry, she would have loved to follow in the footsteps of the renowned primatologist and anthropologist Dame Jane Goodall. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she expressed her admiration by saying, "I think I would be like Jane Goodall, living with animals in nature!"
Her acting career began in 1994 with a leading role in "Léon: The Professional," and before that, she was a backup in the Off-Broadway musical "Ruthless!" alongside future superstar Britney Spears. In 2010, she won the Academy Award for her performance in "Black Swan." However, away from the spotlight, Natalie has been a passionate advocate for animal rights for many years.
Through her choices both on and off screen, Portman showcases her dedication to exploring diverse experiences and championing causes she believes in.
