Natalie Portman Would Have Liked to Be a Zoologist

Natalie Portman has expressed a fondness for zoology. The 43-year-old actress, who has spent 30 years in the entertainment industry, revealed that if her life had taken a different path, she would have followed in the footsteps of the renowned primatologist and anthropologist, Dr. Jane Goodall.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Portman shared, "I think I would be like Jane Goodall, living with animals in nature!" Her passion for wildlife is evident, considering her impressive career that began with her standout role in the 1994 film Léon: The Professional. Before that, she was a replacement in the Off-Broadway musical Ruthless! alongside a young Britney Spears.

Portman won an Oscar for her performance in Black Swan in 2010, but beyond her film accolades, she has been a prominent advocate for animal rights for many years. The Hollywood star follows a vegan lifestyle and has not used any animal products, such as leather or fur, for over two decades.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she stated, "I haven’t bought or worn leather, fur, or any animal products in 20 years. I buy vintage clothing, and only if it’s absolutely necessary, and of course, I repair damaged items." Her commitment to veganism began when she was a vegetarian at the age of nine, and she transitioned to veganism in 2011 after reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s book Eating Animals.

Portman is determined to instill these values in her children, Aleph and Amalia, whom she shares with her husband, Benjamin Millepied. She emphasizes the importance of educating them about climate change. "We talk a lot about [climate change] at home in terms of how we live, what we choose to do. My veganism is largely an environmental choice, alongside animal welfare," she added.

Natalie Portman’s dedication to these causes not only reflects her personal commitments but also fosters a sense of responsibility in the next generation.
