Travis Kelce has been expanding his horizons, but don’t expect him to dive back into reality TV anytime soon. After his Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes appeared on Netflix’s “Quarterback” in 2023, Kelce, 34, was approached to participate in the follow-up series “Receiver,” which is set to premiere on July 10. However, Kelce declined the offer.
“After Pat did it, I did get asked about it,” Kelce mentioned on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast. “I don’t know. I’d rather just play ball, man. I’m already doing enough with the podcast and everything.” Kelce, along with his brother Jason, 36, hosts the weekly podcast “New Heights,” which has been gaining traction and was recently being shopped around in a deal that could potentially be worth eight figures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Kelce humorously added, “I’m way over the reality s–t. I’m out on that s–t.” This isn’t Kelce’s first brush with reality TV. In 2016, he starred in the E! reality dating series “Catching Kelce,” which focused on his quest to find love. Reflecting on the experience during an appearance on “The Pivot Podcast” earlier this year, Kelce described it as “extremely awkward.”
While Kelce praised his brother Jason’s 2023 Prime Video documentary “Kelce,” which chronicled Jason’s decision to return for one final NFL season, he made it clear that he has no desire to follow in his brother’s documentary footsteps. “That was so him and I just don’t know if I have the desire to do anything like that,” Kelce explained. “I’d rather just focus on ball, baby.”
Since winning his second consecutive Super Bowl with the Chiefs in February, Kelce has been involved in various projects outside of football. He recently completed hosting duties on the upcoming Prime Video game show “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?,” which he described as “a blast.” “To be honest, I always wanted to do something with a game show,” Kelce told Jason on “New Heights” in May. “I always wanted to be a part of it, whether I was a contestant, somebody helping out, or hosting one.”
In addition to his game show hosting gig, Kelce filmed a role in the upcoming series “Grotesquerie,” produced by Ryan Murphy. A source exclusively told Us Weekly that Kelce had “an incredible time filming.”
Despite his busy schedule, Kelce remains focused on football. He will begin his quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl when the Chiefs open the regular season on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Kelce’s decision to decline Netflix’s “Receiver” comes as no surprise to those who have followed his career. While he has dabbled in reality TV in the past, his primary focus has always been on football. His podcast “New Heights” has also become a significant part of his life, providing him with a platform to share his thoughts and experiences with fans.
Kelce’s relationship with pop star Taylor Swift has also been a topic of interest. The couple went public with their relationship in September when Swift attended a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium. Since then, Swift has been a regular presence at Kelce’s games, supporting him throughout the 2023 season and celebrating the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory.
“You want to keep things private, but at the same time, like, I’m not here to hide anything,” Kelce said. “That’s my girl, you know what I mean? That’s my lady, so it’s like… I’m proud of that. I’m not sitting here trying to juggle like, ‘How can I keep this under wraps?’ You just don’t want to let everyone into your personal life and be able to comment on it, knowing that everything she does is getting a headline.”
Kelce and Swift’s relationship began last year when Kelce managed to woo the pop star by gifting her a friendship bracelet. He attended her “Eras Tour” concert at Arrowhead Stadium and attempted to meet her backstage to give her the handmade bracelet that featured his phone number. Although Swift does not talk for an hour or so before and after her concerts to preserve her voice, the pair eventually connected. Swift revealed in her TIME ‘Person of the Year’ interview, “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell. We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple.”
While Kelce’s life off the field continues to be a source of fascination for fans, his primary focus remains on football. As he prepares for the upcoming NFL season, fans can look forward to seeing him in action on the field, rather than on reality TV.
