Breakdancing, or “breaking,” is set to make its Olympic debut, and Team USA’s Logan “Logistx” Edra believes the country deserves to win gold in Paris. “We deserve this,” Edra stated emphatically in a recent interview with Fox News Digital.
Logan Edra, known in the breaking community as Logistx, has been dancing since she was seven years old. The San Diego native never imagined that her passion for breaking would lead her to the Olympics. Now, as she prepares for this monumental event, she feels a deep sense of responsibility and urgency to win.
“For me, I’m representing where breaking’s from, the birthplace of hip-hop, and we need to win because it’s going to help the culture, at the end of the day,” Edra explained. She highlighted the challenges faced by American breakers compared to their European and Asian counterparts, who receive more government support. “In Europe and Asia, they have more government support for their breakers. For us, it’s harder because there’s a lot of traditional sports that are very popular amongst the youth.”
Edra and her crew in Miami run a breaking school, but the journey has been anything but smooth. “It’s so up-and-down. I know life is like this, but I can’t wait until this gets to a point where we can just have consistent students and know there is a future here and there’s kids getting what we’re sharing, and they can build their thing and share with the next generation,” she said.
As she prepares for the Olympics, Edra has been fueled by GoGo Squeez, a snack she enjoyed as a child. “The nutrition – I really believe in just promoting and living a conscious lifestyle and being mindful of what we’re putting into our bodies at a young age. Having the new GoGo Squeez with electrolytes and vitamins, it just resonates, and my inner child is happy,” she shared.
The inclusion of breaking in the Olympics has given Edra and her crew a sense of validation. “What we do know is this recognition and this attention and this visibility has really given us motivation in a sense of, I guess, validation that we never really needed. But it’s very helpful, and it’s uplifting, because we’re able to see amazing opportunities take place and be created for us to, honestly, stay alive and also become more sustainable and not worry about survival but more thriving as a culture,” she said.
Edra hopes that this moment in the spotlight will help breaking remain authentic while also respecting and collaborating with the current opportunities. “Hopefully, [we] remain as authentic as we can with just a level of respect and collaboration with the current opportunities and big moment that we have,” she added.
Reflecting on the journey, Edra expressed her gratitude for the community that has supported her. “I’m happy for all of us, and I always just try to uplift all of us because there’s a whole village that raised the people that are involved in this big moment in Paris. It wasn’t just us, it was our mentors, our communities,” she said. “That was a lot, but I needed to let it out.”
As the Olympics approach, the breaking community in the USA is rallying behind Edra and her crew, hoping that their hard work and dedication will pay off with a gold medal. The stakes are high, but Edra is determined to make her mark and bring home the gold for her country and the culture she represents.
