Olympic Games 2024: Everything You Need to Know About This Global Multisport Event

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place on July 26, attracting an anticipated audience of over one billion viewers. A total of 10,500 athletes from 206 national delegations will compete in 45 different Olympic sports.

Argentina will send a delegation of 136 athletes who will participate in 25 disciplines, including at least 11 representatives from Córdoba. As the event approaches, excitement is building among the athletes from Córdoba.

While the opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, July 26, the sporting action kicks off two days earlier, on July 24, with initial team events, including soccer and rugby 7, where Argentina will be competing.

This year, the Olympics will introduce six new disciplines: skateboarding, sport climbing, BMX freestyle, surfing, 3×3 basketball, and breaking.

The public will be able to watch the Paris 2024 Olympics on TV Pública, while cable channels TyC Sports and DSports will provide round-the-clock coverage. In addition, various streaming platforms, both national and international, will also broadcast the events, including DGO, Flow Sports, and TyC Sports Play.

For the Argentine delegation, the Olympic Committee has appointed hockey player Rocío Sánchez Moccia and volleyball player Luciano De Cecco as flag bearers for the opening ceremony. Both athletes are returning for their fourth consecutive Olympics, having competed in London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020. They both have podium experience, with De Cecco winning a bronze medal in Tokyo and Sánchez Moccia earning silver medals in London and Tokyo.

The official mascot for the Paris 2024 Olympics is named Phryge, which is inspired by traditional Phrygian caps, symbolizing freedom and representing allegorical figures of the French Republic.

There are several interesting facts to note. Athletes are prohibited from sharing images or videos of competition areas on social media. Additionally, Olympic wrestlers must wear a “blood rag,” a cloth used to manage any bleeding during matches.

In gymnastics, if a team believes a score is unfair, they can pay a fee to request a review. Should the score change, they would receive their money back; if not, the fee goes to charity. Archers have a maximum of 40 seconds to take each shot during competitions, and all Olympic tennis matches are held on hard courts, differing from other professional tournaments played on grass and clay.
