Parker McCollum going all out in the Thunderdome.
For those uninitiated, the “Thunderdome” is where The Pat McAfee Show broadcasts its show, live from Indianapolis, Indiana. It’s also where McCollum turned a gymnasium/talk show set into a personal spot to test out some cover songs ahead of his show at the Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park.
The 32-year-old country singer first played Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’,” which really blew the socks off of Pat McAfee and the rest of his show. But it was when Parker moved into his cover of John Mayer’s “Perfectly Lonely” that the Thunderdome really got excited, as the guys even backed up McCollum with some somewhat offbeat choreography.
This isn’t the first time Parker has busted out a version of “Perfectly Lonely.” In fact, back in February of this year, McCollum posted an official cover of the John Mayer track to his YouTube channel. The song, which was originally released back in 2009, was the fourth single from the “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room” singer’s album Battle Studies.
As far as John Mayer songs go, it’s sort of a deep cut for those that don’t call themselves fans of the now 46-year-old singer-songwriter. However, the track works really well with Parker’s strong vocal capabilities, as he was able to display on The Pat McAfee Show.
McCollum himself is a huge fan of John Mayer, and had this to say about covering the track when he released it earlier this year:
“Everyone knows Mayer is top two all-time for me. So, when I got the opportunity to cover one of his songs, I had to do it. I just hope that if he ever hears it, he won’t hate it.”
Personally, I don’t see how John Mayer could hear this and hate it.
