Plane carrying 19 passengers crashes in Nepal shortly after takeoff

A plane carrying 19 people crashed on Wednesday in the capital of Nepal. This incident occurred just after the aircraft took off from the local airport, as reported by the Kathmandu Post.

Preliminary information indicates that the aircraft belonged to Saurya Airlines, and the accident happened during the early hours of the day. As of now, there are no updates about the passengers or crew on board.

The airline had a total of 19 individuals, including the crew, on flight destined for Pokhara, a significant tourism hub located in central Nepal. This information comes from Premnath Thakur, a spokesperson for the airport. Reports also indicate that the plane caught fire, producing a large column of smoke.

Saurya Airlines exclusively operates Bombardier CRJ 200 aircraft, according to their official website. The Nepalese aviation industry has experienced considerable growth in recent years, facilitating the transportation of people and goods to remote areas, as well as catering to mountaineers. However, concerns have been raised about safety standards among the various airlines in the country.

In light of these safety issues, the European Union has banned all Nepalese airlines from flying over its airspace.
