Podemos urges Sánchez to break his pact with the PP for the CGPJ after being summoned to testify: ‘He is digging his own grave’

Ione Belarra, the leader of Podemos, has urged Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to abandon his agreement with the PP regarding the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). This call comes after Judge Juan Carlos Peinado summoned Sánchez to testify, warning that by continuing with the deal, Sánchez is essentially "digging his own political grave."

In a message posted on social media platform X, Belarra criticized the judge’s actions, suggesting that the summons is merely intended for "media impact, spectacle, and discredit." She stressed that following this incident, the PSOE should not go ahead with the CGPJ agreement with the PP, stating, "The dirty judicial war must stop now."

Irene Montero, a Member of the European Parliament and Belarra’s deputy, also chimed in on X, commenting on the summons. She remarked that "the reactionaries of the Judiciary" are asserting their authority, declaring, "I control this space, not the Government or Congress." She further criticized the PSOE for engaging in bipartisan agreements over the CGPJ, arguing that such coalitions contradict the need for democratic regeneration.

The unfolding political drama has sparked significant debate over the relationship between the judiciary and the government in Spain, raising questions about the independence of judicial processes.
