Pregnant Gypsy Rose Blanchard Speaks About Her Baby’s Paternity

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who recently announced her pregnancy, is addressing questions about the paternity of her unborn child. In a candid interview with ABC News, Blanchard confirmed that her boyfriend, Ken Urker, is the father of her baby, despite her ongoing divorce from Ryan Anderson.

Blanchard, 32, clarified the timeline of events to dispel any doubts. “It was mid-March when I left Ryan,” she said. “So this is absolutely 100 percent Ken’s baby. There was never any question of paternity.” She reiterated this point on social media, providing specific dates to confirm that Urker is indeed the father.

Blanchard’s pregnancy announcement came shortly after her release from prison, where she served time for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Dee Dee had allegedly abused Gypsy Rose by fabricating illnesses and subjecting her to unnecessary medical treatments. Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 and was released in December 2023.

Currently, Blanchard is focused on her pregnancy and ensuring her health for the sake of her baby. “I have not even had a moment to stop and think about anybody else except for, ‘Am I taking my prenatals in the morning? Am I drinking enough water?'” she shared. “I have so much to focus on making sure I am healthy enough for this baby.”

Blanchard understands that her past actions may lead some to question her ability to be a mother. “I know that I’m not perfect, I know that I have made mistakes in the past and I will probably make minor mistakes going forward,” she admitted. “But at the same time, I do know right from wrong. And learning from past mistakes is a growth that comes from time.”

Gypsy Rose met both Urker and Anderson while she was in prison. She was initially engaged to Urker in 2018 but called it off shortly after. She then moved on with Anderson in 2020 and married him in 2022 while still incarcerated. However, she filed for divorce in April 2023 after two years of marriage. Following her separation from Anderson, she rekindled her relationship with Urker.

Blanchard emphasized that Urker did not influence her decision to leave Anderson. “It was, I think, an insecurity that was there for a very long time,” she explained. “I called Ken two weeks before I got married. Ken has consistently been brought up in a way that I can never let go of my feelings, but I put them on the back burner to do what was best for my marriage. And so, having that be a point of contention has been a thread throughout, but I didn’t leave Ryan for Ken. That was just sort of a realization [of], ‘Hey, we still love each other after the fact.’”

Blanchard is aware that her criminal history and the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death will be topics of discussion in the future, especially with her child. She plans to address these issues honestly when the time comes. “I understand that with my past, there’s gonna be a lot of people that kind of question if I even should be a mother or even have children in my care,” she said. “But at the same time, I do know right from wrong. And learning from past mistakes is a growth that comes with time.”

Blanchard’s traumatic upbringing has motivated her to provide a better life for her child. “All the things that I wanted in a mother, I want to give to this baby,” she said. “And I just want to be a good mother for my child. I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”

She also expressed her gratitude for the second chance at life she has been given. “I thank God every day that I am now having this second chance at life with a kid of my own,” she explained. “So, to be here, standing on my own two feet and expecting my first baby, that’s something I’ve reached as an achievement and a personal goal.”

Blanchard has decided to keep her child out of the public eye, despite her own presence in the media. “I will not be putting my child in the media at all,” she stated. “This world is so cruel and unsafe that there is a level of responsibility that I have to make sure that my child is protected.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker are expecting their first baby in January 2025. Blanchard has not revealed the sex of the baby but is eagerly anticipating this new chapter in her life.
