In a heartwarming initiative, primary school pupils at Holy Trinity CofE Academy in Devizes, Wiltshire, have created a rap track titled “Change the World.” This project aims to inspire positive societal change and celebrate the school’s core values.
The song features about 145 children singing the chorus, while 30 Year 5 and Year 6 pupils take on the verses. The track, now available on YouTube and Spotify, encapsulates the school’s values of compassion, courage, aspiration, and joy.
Year 6 pupil Bea shared her thoughts, saying, “If people pick up litter or are kind to each other, it can make the world happier and nicer.” This sentiment is echoed by her peers, who believe their song can encourage others to make a difference.
Kitty, another pupil, emphasized the importance of including the school’s values in the song. “We really wanted to include them in the song. Important things that mean a lot to us,” she said. Harry, a fellow student, added, “It’s a nice song, or rap, and it can talk people into changing the world.”
William, another participant, expressed pride in their work, stating they wanted “to show everyone who we are” at Holy Trinity and that “everyone always has a smile on their face.”
The project was a collaborative effort, with the children working together to create the rap. Dominy Jones, the school’s music and diversity lead, praised the students’ creativity. “The creativity was all the children’s,” she said. “I found a fantastic group called Sounds Good, who helped the children shape it into something that would be able to be a piece of performance poetry.”
Head teacher Anna Woodman highlighted the significance of the project for the school community. “Our children see this as a gift,” she said. “This gift of being able to give back to the school – our oldest children with the lyrics that they have shared with our younger children. But also being able to share it throughout the school community and beyond.”
The rap track “Change the World” is a testament to the power of young voices and their potential to inspire change. It serves as a reminder that even small acts of kindness and compassion can make a significant impact on the world.
The initiative has garnered positive feedback from both students and teachers, who believe that the project has not only fostered creativity but also instilled a sense of responsibility and community among the pupils.
As the song continues to reach more listeners, the hope is that it will encourage others to reflect on the changes they want to see in the world and take action to make a difference.
The success of “Change the World” highlights the importance of empowering young people to express themselves and contribute to their communities. It also underscores the role of schools in nurturing creativity and promoting values that can lead to a better society.
With the support of their teachers and the wider school community, the pupils of Holy Trinity CofE Academy have shown that they are capable of making a meaningful impact. Their rap track is a powerful example of how music and creativity can be used to inspire positive change.
As the world continues to face various challenges, initiatives like this remind us of the potential for young people to lead the way in creating a brighter future. The pupils of Holy Trinity CofE Academy have set an inspiring example, demonstrating that even the youngest members of society can play a crucial role in shaping a better world.
