Gizelle Bryant, the star of Real Housewives of Potomac, is stepping into a new chapter as she prepares her twin daughters, Angel and Adore, for their freshman year of college. With a blend of humor and heartfelt advice, she is sharing her experiences and insights to help them navigate this exciting yet challenging transition.
Reflecting on her own college days at Hampton University, Gizelle recalls a rather lax approach to laundry. “When I left for school in August, I didn’t wash my clothes until I went back home for Thanksgiving break,” she shared. “When I ran out of underwear, I would just buy more. I told them, ‘Don’t do that! That’s disgusting! Don’t do what Mommy did.’”
Gizelle’s candidness about her past serves as a lighthearted reminder for her daughters. She recognizes that they are much more prepared than she was at their age. “They’re light years past where I was at their age,” she admits. “So excited about their future, and planning to make sure they meet their goals. It’s an honor to see them grow.”
As a mother, Gizelle is naturally concerned, especially since Angel and Adore will be attending different schools. Angel is heading to Spelman College in Atlanta, while Adore will be attending Hampton University, following in her mother’s footsteps. “I was not prepared for that,” she admits about their decision to go their separate ways. “They both applied to Hampton and both got in, both got scholarships. They both applied to Spelman and both got in. I was just thinking that they were going to — amongst two of them — have a meeting and say, ‘Okay, where are we going?’ That didn’t happen.”
Despite the “double anxiety and double stress” of having her daughters at different colleges, Gizelle is proud of their choices. She appreciates that both girls are attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), which she believes will provide them with unique opportunities for personal growth. “They’re really looking forward to being their own person and not necessarily connected to someone else,” she says. “But there’s also going to be a void. They’ve already said they’re going to call each other every morning.”
Gizelle’s advice extends beyond laundry tips. She emphasizes the importance of trusting one’s instincts. “I’m reminding them to trust their gut,” she says. “It’ll never lie to you. If you’re in a situation in which you don’t feel comfortable, leave. Whoever you go to a party with, that’s who you leave with. You don’t go anywhere by yourself at night. If you put a drink down at a party, that one is done.”
While she offers cautionary advice, Gizelle also encourages her daughters to embrace every opportunity that comes their way. “I told Grace [when she left for Florida A&M], and I’m going to tell the twins: Do everything. No matter what the event or activity is, do it. Embrace everything with all of yourself. You have four years. Four years of your father’s money! [laughs] So live it to the fullest and enjoy it.”
The excitement surrounding Angel and Adore’s college journey is palpable. They recently shared their college decisions on social media, proudly announcing their choices. Angel will be attending Spelman College, while Adore will be at Hampton University. Their parents, Gizelle and Jamal Bryant, expressed their pride and support in the comments, celebrating their daughters’ achievements.
Gizelle’s journey as a mother has been filled with milestones. She also has an older daughter, Grace, who is currently a sophomore at Florida A&M University. The family’s commitment to HBCUs is evident, as all three daughters are continuing the legacy of their parents’ educational choices.
As Gizelle prepares to send her daughters off to college, she reflects on the bittersweet nature of this transition. “There’s a lot of pride, but there’s also a lot of worry,” she admits. “I want them to thrive, but I also want them to be safe and make good choices.”
The bond between the sisters remains strong, even as they embark on their separate journeys. They have promised to stay connected, vowing to call each other every morning. Gizelle finds comfort in knowing that despite the distance, their relationship will endure.
In addition to her role as a mother, Gizelle continues to navigate her own personal life. She has been open about her dating experiences and the challenges of maintaining relationships. “I’ve been in the streets a little bit, doing a little dating here and there,” she shared in a recent update. Her daughters have even chimed in, playfully noting their mother’s “type” when it comes to partners.
As the new school year approaches, Gizelle Bryant is embracing the changes in her family dynamic. With a mix of humor, wisdom, and love, she is preparing her daughters for the adventures that await them in college. The journey ahead is filled with promise, and Gizelle is excited to see what the future holds for Angel, Adore, and Grace.
