Robles presides over the swearing-in of General Francisco Braco as new JEMA

Defense Minister Margarita Robles expressed her support for the new head of the Spanish Air and Space Army, Lieutenant General Francisco Braco, during his inauguration. Braco, who previously led the Operations Command at the Defense Staff, replaces General Javier Salto in this significant role.

In her speech, Robles emphasized that Braco faces an important challenge but is supported by a “great family” of over 20,000 men and women in the Air and Space Army. She highlighted the unity shared by everyone present, grounded in their shared love for Spain and commitment to the values of tolerance and solidarity. Robles praised Braco as a “great professional and hard worker,” noting his humility as a valuable trait.

Braco acknowledged the trust placed in him by the minister and indicated his intent to build upon the foundations laid by General Salto. He articulated his goals, which include prioritizing security across all areas, renewing aircraft fleets to ensure operational readiness, enhancing military training as a deterrent, advancing digital transformation, and progressing on the BACSI project (Connected, Sustainable, and Smart Air Base).

General Salto, the outgoing leader, expressed gratitude for Robles’ support and the collaboration of his team since he took office in 2017. He remarked on the honor he felt in being a mentor and observer of their achievements, and he appreciated the daily support and warmth he received.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Chief of the Defense Staff, Admiral General Teodoro Esteban López Calderón, the Secretary of State for Defense, Amparo Valcarce García, director of the CNI, Esperanza Casteleiro Llamazares, Deputy Secretary of Defense, Adoración Mateos Tejada, and the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Amador Enseñat y Berea.

This event marks a significant moment for the Air and Space Army, highlighting a transition in leadership and a commitment to ongoing improvements and security priorities.
