Rueda celebrates a Galicia that “thrives” and “pulses strongly” year-round

The President of Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, recently shared a video on social media to commemorate National Galicia Day. He described Galicia as a land characterized by tolerance, responsibility, and vibrant spirit, emphasizing the significance of this day, celebrated on July 25th, as well as its everyday importance.

In the video, filmed from his official residence in Monte Pío, with the Cathedral of Santiago as a backdrop, Rueda conveyed that Galicia’s essence resonates even where Galicians live outside their homeland. He believes that this significant event unites everyone from Galicia, whether they reside in the region or abroad, as Galicia has no borders.

Rueda highlighted that Galicia serves as a “living testimony” of the good shared by its people for centuries. He acknowledged the hard work of their ancestors who labored tirelessly for a brighter future. Despite the challenges faced over the years—on land, during emigration, in the mountains, on the coast, and across the world’s oceans—he expressed gratitude for their efforts.

He stressed that today’s Galicia is strong and assertive. This community, which he described as “discontented,” continually strives for progress. Rueda portrayed Galicians as a tolerant people, open to all, emphasizing respect for differing perspectives, a commitment to hard work, and the pursuit of equality of opportunity without discrimination.

Referencing the motto he adopted to mark the first 100 days of his administration, Rueda stated that “Galicia fulfills its promise.” He expressed optimism that a better Galicia is achievable through collective effort, highlighting that what unites Galicians far outweighs what divides them. “This is why Galicia thrives, today and every day of the year,” he affirmed.

In the video, Rueda also noted that July 25 honors the patron saint of Spain, the Apostle Santiago.
