Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Soaked Onstage at Waterbomb Festival in Seoul

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are making waves on their Deadpool & Wolverine world tour, quite literally. The dynamic duo made a memorable stop at the 2024 Waterbomb Festival in Seoul, South Korea, on July 5, where they were seen getting drenched on stage, much to the delight of their fans.

Hugh Jackman, 55, shared several videos on his Instagram Stories, capturing the electrifying atmosphere. In one clip, he was introduced as Wolverine, holding a water gun and striking a pose as fans sprayed water in his direction. “We love you! We love you Seoul,” Jackman exclaimed, forming a heart sign with his hands. Another video showed him smiling broadly, soaked from head to toe, while operating a water gun, a moment that was also shared by a festival attendee on X.

Ryan Reynolds, 47, and Jackman have been touring various countries in Asia to promote the upcoming Deadpool movie. On July 3, Reynolds posted photos on Instagram from their trip to Shanghai, China, alongside the movie’s director Shawn Levy. He expressed his gratitude to the city for its hospitality, writing, “As we make our way to Korea, we want to thank the people of Shanghai for the incredible hospitality and warmth. I’ve been lucky to visit China five times — and as of today, the beautiful sights and sounds of Shanghai for a third time. Thank you from the heart of our bottom.”

The friendship between Jackman and Reynolds dates back to their first collaboration on the big screen in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which also marked Reynolds’ debut as Deadpool. Their camaraderie has only grown stronger over the years. “I think the secret sauce to a long-lasting Hollywood friendship is not too dissimilar to having a partner or a marriage,” Reynolds said in an interview with PEOPLE. “I am genuinely rooting for you, all the time. I want you to win,” he added, comparing his support for Jackman to the way he feels about his wife, Blake Lively.

The Waterbomb Festival appearance was just one highlight of their tour, which has been filled with memorable moments. Jackman, who reprises his role as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, admitted that bulking up for the role was challenging. “The hardest bit … [was] the food. I have to eat a lot. For me, for my body type, I’m naturally skinny,” he said in a conversation with Reynolds for People magazine. Reynolds acknowledged the difficulty, noting that eating five to six meals a day might sound appealing but isn’t always enjoyable.

Reynolds was also impressed by Jackman’s dedication to the physical aspects of the role, particularly his background in dance, which proved invaluable for the action sequences. “Just the sheer relentlessness that you dedicated yourself towards stunts, choreography. It was the first time I’d ever seen how invaluable a background in song and dance is when you are doing an action movie,” Reynolds said. He praised Jackman’s ability to hit his marks with speed and confidence, describing it as one of the most impressive things he had ever seen.

Jackman credited his work with stunt coordinator Brian Smrz, who introduced dance training to prepare for the action sequences. “When I came back to it, it was really fun and I was thrilled. My body was a little sore at the beginning, but I was thrilled that my body was still responding. And I realized how good it is for your brain,” Jackman said.

The decision to reprise his role as Wolverine wasn’t taken lightly. Jackman revealed that he committed to the project even before consulting his agent. “I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan,” he said in an interview with Fandango. Despite initially thinking he was done with the character after 2017’s Logan, the idea of bringing Deadpool and Wolverine together was too enticing to resist.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige initially advised against Jackman’s return, citing the perfect ending in Logan. However, he eventually warmed up to the idea, appreciating that Jackman would not be playing the same version of Logan and Wolverine from the previous X-Men films.

As the release date for Deadpool & Wolverine approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating the on-screen reunion of these two beloved characters. The film is set to hit theaters on July 26, promising an action-packed and entertaining experience.
