Scarlett Johansson, known for her role in the new film “Fly Me to the Moon,” recently shared her curiosity about a unique conspiracy theory involving country music legend Dolly Parton. During the world premiere of her latest movie at New York’s AMC Lincoln Square Theater, Johansson, 39, was asked about conspiracy theories that intrigue her. She revealed her interest in the rumor that Dolly Parton has full tattoo sleeves.
“I don’t know. I’m so not a conspiracy theorist. I’m like, I really believe in science. I don’t know. I think probably that Dolly Parton has full tattooed sleeves,” Johansson told PEOPLE with a sly smile, adding playfully, “Is it real? We’ll find out.”
This light-hearted curiosity comes from a place of genuine interest, as Johansson is not typically one to indulge in conspiracy theories. Her latest film, inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing and the belief that it was staged by the U.S. government, has perhaps sparked her interest in such topics.
Dolly Parton, 78, has previously confirmed that she does have some tattoos, describing them as “tasteful” and often used to cover scars. “My tattoos are pretty, they’re artful and they usually started out to cover some scar, not to make a big statement. Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have,” Parton shared in a September 2020 conversation with PEOPLE. She explained that her tattoos are a way of making something beautiful from an ugly experience, such as a scar from a feeding tube she had to wear during an illness.
Johansson’s latest project, “Fly Me to the Moon,” sees her playing Kelly Jones, a member of the marketing team tasked with rehabilitating NASA’s public image. She stars alongside Channing Tatum, who plays launch director Cole Davis. The actress, who is also a producer on the film, described her character as a “very modern woman living in a time where women were often underestimated.”
The film, directed by Greg Berlanti, is described by Johansson as “totally original” and not derivative of anything else. “I think audiences haven’t been offered a big-idea movie that is both funny and poignant and original in a long time, and they are hungry for that. The film is totally entertaining and fresh. I’m very proud of it for its newness and scope,” she said.
Johansson attended the premiere in a chic custom Prada top and skirt in faille vichy, with crystal embroidery trim and silver leather sandals. “Fly Me to the Moon” hits theaters on July 12.
In addition to her film career, Johansson is reportedly in talks to join the next installment of the “Jurassic World” movie series. According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, the 39-year-old actress is in discussions to star in the follow-up to the long-running series. Universal Pictures and Johansson have both declined to comment on the report.
The new “Jurassic World” movie, set for a July 2, 2025 release, will be directed by Gareth Edwards, known for his work on “Godzilla” (2014) and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (2016). The screenplay will be written by David Koepp, who wrote the original “Jurassic Park” released by Steven Spielberg in 1993.
Johansson, who has two Oscar nominations for “Marriage Story” and “Jojo Rabbit,” has had no trouble breaking out in other projects beyond her role as Black Widow in the Marvel Studios franchise. She has a voice role in the upcoming animated feature “Transformers One” and a big-budget Apple feature co-starring Channing Tatum due out this year.
The “Jurassic World” franchise, which began with Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” in 1993, has seen significant success over the years. The most recent trilogy, led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, concluded with “Jurassic World Dominion” in 2022. The new installment is said to have a fresh plotline to move the franchise forward.
In another recent development, Johansson expressed her shock and anger at how similar one of the voices in ChatGPT sounded to hers. OpenAI has since paused the use of the voice named Sky after it drew comparisons with Johansson’s voice. The actress revealed that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had approached her in September, asking if she would lend her voice to the system, but she declined the offer.
Johansson’s curiosity about Dolly Parton’s tattoo sleeves adds a playful and human touch to her public persona, showing that even celebrities have their own quirky interests and questions. Whether or not the rumor about Parton’s tattoos is true, it certainly adds an intriguing layer to the public’s fascination with both Johansson and Parton.
