Shane Smith, the frontman of Shane Smith & the Saints and a new dad, recently shared a hilarious yet cautionary tale on Dale Brisby’s Rodeo Time Podcast. During the podcast, Dale posed an unusual question to Shane: if he were in a concrete room wearing only his underwear, what would be the largest animal he would fight?
Shane humorously brought up his friend and fellow musician, Koe Wetzel, while recounting a wild night they had after opening for Eric Church in Canada last year. According to Shane, Koe’s notorious “fight club” on the tour bus led to some intense and rowdy partying.
Shane admitted that Koe “messed [him] up” during the night of wrestling and friendly brawling. He described the scene as a cage fight, with one-on-one matches and people placing bets on the outcomes. Although Shane didn’t actually face Koe in the makeshift tournament, he did go quite far, ultimately injuring his rib in the process.
The most amusing part of the story is that Shane’s wife has now put a limit on how often he can hang out with Koe. Given the wild nature of that night and their new responsibilities as parents, it’s understandable why she would want to keep such escapades to a minimum.
Shane shared, “I think I lasted a pretty decent while, but I messed up my rib. It was a whole deal. My wife is limiting the amount of times that he and I can hang out anymore.”
