Shannen Doherty felt “grateful for the time she lived” before her passing. The former star of ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ died on July 13, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Recently, her close friend and fellow actress, Roma Downey, 63, fondly recalled a “fun night” they shared at U2’s home in Las Vegas late last year.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Downey reflected on their friendship, saying, “We were both Irish, living in Malibu, both actresses, and close friends and neighbors. We enjoyed good wine and good food, and we loved each other’s company. We cherished laughing and sharing stories. Shannen would come over for dinner, and we would catch up. Both Mark and I loved her dearly. Everyone did. The night at the U2 concert was so much fun. Shannen lived life to the fullest and appreciated every moment. She was grateful for the time she had and always made the most of it.”
Downey also believes that Shannen served as an “inspiration to many” by using her public platform to raise awareness about cancer. Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission in 2017, only for the disease to return and spread three years later.
“She was incredibly brave and showed so much courage,” Downey noted. “She truly was a warrior. Sharing her illness publicly became a source of inspiration and strength for many. I prayed with her and for her. I loved her, worried about her, and admired her. She was a bright light in our lives, and we will miss her dearly.”
The ‘Charmed’ star underwent surgery late last year to remove a brain tumor, which she humorously named Bob. At that time, she expressed her determination to work tirelessly on her motor skills and declared that she would “not give up.”
In a November 2023 episode of her podcast, ‘Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,’ she discussed her health battles and insisted that she “was not done” living.
Shannen leaves behind a legacy of strength and resilience, inspiring countless individuals as she fought bravely through her challenges. We will remember her spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.
