Shannen Doherty Passed Away Surrounded by a ‘Close Group of Friends’

Shannen Doherty passed away surrounded by a close-knit group of friends. The former star of "Beverly Hills 90210" lost her battle with cancer on July 13 at the age of 53. Her oncologist, Lawrence D. Piro, who became a close friend during her illness, has shared some sad yet beautiful details about her final moments.

In an interview with People magazine, Dr. Piro mentioned that in her last hours, Shannen was in a very comfortable place, peacefully sleeping and transitioning. She was surrounded by her closest friends who were there to support her. He described the scene as somber and sad, yet filled with love and warmth. The most challenging aspect, he noted, was that Shannen wasn’t ready to leave because she loved life.

Dr. Piro recounted how Shannen had initially been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and had gone into remission in 2017. However, in 2020, she learned that the cancer had returned and spread to her bones. Throughout her journey, she never wanted to consider any option other than defeating cancer. During their last conversation, she was still processing the significant turn her health had taken.

He added that Shannen refused to think about any alternatives to her recovery. In her mind, she believed she was overcoming the cancer and was fully committed to living. Their conversations revolved around love, support, and the fight ahead. Even when her physical condition had worsened, she wanted to continue her treatment and remain strong.

In late 2022, Shannen underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor, which she affectionately named "Bob." She emphasized her determination to regain her motor skills, describing herself as someone who never gives up. On her podcast "Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty," she spoke candidly about her struggles and insisted, even until November 2023, that she was "not done" living.

She said, "I haven’t finished living. I haven’t finished loving. I haven’t finished creating. I haven’t lost hope that things can be changed for the better. I’m not done."
