Shannen Doherty reached a divorce settlement with Kurt Iswarienko just one day before her passing. The actress, known for her role in Beverly Hills 90210, lost her lengthy battle with breast cancer at the age of 53 on Saturday, July 13. Court documents revealed this week indicate that she waived spousal support and agreed to a "default or mutual dissolution" of her marriage to Kurt, suggesting they resolved their separation amicably outside of court.
Shannen signed the divorce agreement on Friday, July 12, while Kurt, a celebrity photographer, finalized it on Saturday, the day she passed away. The document included a statement expressing the mutual desire of both parties to reach a complete and final settlement of all property interests and obligations, including asset division, reimbursement claims, spousal support, and attorney fees.
Both parties’ attorneys submitted the necessary paperwork early on Monday morning. Shannen’s publicist, Leslie Sloane, announced that the actress died surrounded by her loved ones.
In a press release to People magazine, she shared that Shannen was not only a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend but was also accompanied by her dog, Bowie. The family requested privacy during this difficult time to allow for peaceful mourning.
Following Shannen’s death, her friend Tara Furiani publicly criticized Kurt for displaying a lack of compassion during their bitter divorce battle, which began in April 2023. Tara claimed that he did everything possible to avoid paying Shannen support, stating, “Life is tough… especially with cancer and not having the support you thought you would have. If you have the chance to be a decent person, take it. You never know what someone is going through.”
Shannen, who married Kurt in Malibu, California, back in October 2011, expressed in legal documents submitted the prior month that she hoped to pass away before he was required to pay her while he continued living his life, avoiding his responsibilities to his dying wife of over 11 years.
Kurt’s attorney denied these claims, asserting that he had aimed to finalize their divorce with a settlement agreement in September 2023—an assertion Shannen disputed, stating he allegedly "evaded" discussions about his earnings during the early years of their marriage.
