Shogun and Hacks Win Top Honors at Television Critics Association Awards

FX’s “Shōgun” emerged as the big winner at the 40th Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards, held on Friday. The drama series, set in feudal Japan, clinched four prestigious honors, including the TCA’s Program of the Year award. It also won accolades for Best Drama and Best New Program, while Anna Sawai received the award for Individual Achievement in Drama for her role as Toda Mariko.

“Shōgun” is anticipated to be a significant contender at the upcoming Emmy Awards, with nominations set to be announced on Wednesday. The series, which debuted in February, has captivated audiences and critics alike, becoming a viewership juggernaut and earning rave reviews. The show, adapted from James Clavell’s novel by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, is now exploring plans for a second and third season.

Max’s “Hacks” was the only other multiple award winner of the night, securing honors for both Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement in Comedy for Jean Smart. To cap off the celebration, Andre Braugher was honored with the Career Achievement Award. Braugher, who passed away late last year at 61, had a prolific three-decade career, with memorable roles in “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and many other series and films. His powerful voice and presence left a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
