Slovenia Highlights Democratic Commitment Following Biden’s Decision

On July 22, Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon expressed her views on President Joe Biden’s difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming presidential race in November. She believes this move underscores the Democratic Party’s commitment to democracy in the United States.

Fajon, while attending a meeting with her European Union counterparts in Brussels, stated, "I am sure that it has been a very tough decision for the president, who has done a lot for democracy in the United States." She added that this situation also confirms the democratic process within the Democratic Party.

The Slovenian minister emphasized her country’s intention to continue strengthening transatlantic relations, regardless of who wins the U.S. presidential election scheduled for November 5.

This response from Slovenia follows Biden’s announcement on Sunday. At 81 years old, he decided to exit the race for the Democratic nomination "in the interest" of his party and the country. He also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred candidate to succeed him in the White House.

Biden’s withdrawal came amid pressures from his party, particularly after his performance in the first debate against Donald Trump on June 27. During that debate, he appeared disoriented at times, which further sparked discussions about his health and age.
