Slovenian Tadej Pogačar Withdraws from the Olympics

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, who recently won the Tour de France, will not participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This announcement was made on Monday by the Slovenian Cycling Federation and the Slovenian Olympic Committee.

The men’s cycling team coach revealed the names of the athletes selected for the Olympics, mentioning that Pogacar would not be among them. His teammate, Domen Novak, will take his place. The Olympic Committee expressed their best wishes to Novak for the upcoming competition while congratulating Pogacar on his Tour de France victory.

Pogacar, who earned a bronze medal in the road race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will be replaced in the team by another UAE Team Emirates rider, Domen Novak. At just 25 years old, Pogacar will take some well-deserved rest after an intense season, which saw him claim victories in both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.

Additionally, two other Slovenian cyclists will also miss the Olympics: Primoz Roglic, who suffered a serious fall during the Tour de France, and Urska Zigart, Pogacar’s partner, who, despite being a two-time national champion, was not selected for the team.
