Jamie-Lynn Sigler, known for her role as Meadow Soprano on HBO’s The Sopranos, recently shared a touching revelation about her on-screen father, James Gandolfini. During an appearance on Justin Long’s Life Is Short podcast, Sigler opened up about her career and her battle with multiple sclerosis (MS). She disclosed that Gandolfini, who passed away in 2013 from a heart attack, was the only person on set she confided in about her diagnosis.

“He pulled me aside one day and said, ‘Jamie, what is going on?'” Sigler recounted. “I just fell in a puddle in his arms. I was so scared, but I told him I have MS and didn’t know how to tell anyone. He assured me, ‘Your secret’s safe with me.’

Sigler, who played the daughter of Gandolfini’s mob boss character Tony Soprano, revealed that Gandolfini was always protective and supportive of her. However, it wasn’t until after his death that she discovered the extent of his kindness. “I found out after his death that he donated to MS organizations constantly for me,” she said.

During the podcast, Sigler also discussed the challenges she faced while filming the show’s fifth season in 2004. “I was going through a divorce, and the MS was really starting to affect me,” she shared. “It affects your bladder, and I had to pee frequently. In the middle of a take, I’d apologize and run to the bathroom. People were confused, but nobody asked what was wrong—except Jim.”

Gandolfini’s support extended beyond emotional comfort. He even offered Sigler his acting coach to help her regain confidence in her work. “I’ve never seen an actor work harder than Jim Gandolfini,” she said. “He spent every Sunday learning all his lines for the week.”

Sigler now co-hosts the MeSsy podcast with Christina Applegate, who also has MS. They share personal stories and offer guidance to others dealing with the disease. “We started the podcast about a year ago, recording every week,” Sigler told People in March. “We’re sharing the deepest parts of ourselves, and it’s been healing.”

Sigler’s revelation about Gandolfini’s secret donations has touched many fans and colleagues. The late actor’s generosity and dedication to helping those with MS highlight his compassionate nature. Sigler continues to honor his memory by speaking openly about her journey and advocating for MS awareness.

James Gandolfini’s quiet support for Jamie-Lynn Sigler and his contributions to MS charities remain a testament to his character. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, both on and off the screen.
