Suki Waterhouse Defends Performing at Coachella 6 Weeks Post-Delivery

Suki Waterhouse has no time for the internet critics who blasted her for performing at Coachella in April just six weeks after giving birth. In an interview with British Vogue for their August cover story, the singer got candid about the scrutiny she’s faced since becoming a new mom.

“Every mum’s morality is in question so much, not just from yourself, but from society,” Waterhouse said. “Everyone’s projecting something onto you. That’s an insane thing.”

The “Nostalgia” singer and her fiancé, actor Robert Pattinson, welcomed a daughter in March. Waterhouse acknowledged that she had doubts about hitting the stage so soon after giving birth.

“Like, honestly, of course [I was thinking]: ‘Holy shit, how is this going to work, is this even going to be possible?’” she told the magazine. She then recalled hyping herself up before the big event: “You just have to go, ‘This is what we’re doing, this is what we’re about and fuck what anyone else thinks.’”

Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse started dating in 2018 and got engaged in December 2023. Elsewhere in the interview, Waterhouse explained that the arrival of their baby girl didn’t come as a surprise since it was “really planned.”

“One day we looked at each other and said, ‘Well, this is as ready as we’re going to be,’” she recalled of her and Pattinson’s decision to start a family together. Waterhouse gushed to British Vogue that Pattinson is “the dad I could have hoped for. I mean, a dad and his daughter? It’s an actual love story.”

Last month, the “Twilight” star did some gushing of his own while opening up about their little one. “She’s so cute,” Pattinson said at a Dior fashion show in Paris in a clip shared on social media. “You know, I’m amazed by how quickly their personality comes. So even at three months, I’m like, ‘Oh, I can kinda see who she is already.’”

Suki Waterhouse doesn’t seem to care about the criticism she got for playing Coachella six weeks after welcoming her baby daughter. Speaking with British Vogue for their August cover story, the singer and actress, 32, opened up about her journey into new motherhood, sharing that she’d already been exposed to critics who had opinions about how she’s been adjusting to being a parent.

“Every mum’s morality is in question so much, not just from yourself, but from society,” Waterhouse says. “Everyone’s projecting something onto you. That’s an insane thing.”

Noting that she received a lot of criticism for playing Coachella six weeks after welcoming her daughter, whom she shares with fiancé Robert Pattinson, 38, Waterhouse says, “Like, honestly, of course [I was thinking]: ‘Holy s—, how is this going to work, is this even going to be possible?'”

“You just have to go, ‘This is what we’re doing, this is what we’re about and f— what anybody else thinks,'” Waterhouse says.

Waterhouse and Pattinson welcomed their first baby together in March. While attending the Dior Homme Menswear Spring/Summer 2025 show in Paris, France, in June, Pattinson spoke about his newborn daughter.

“[Having a baby] makes you feel very old and very young,” Pattinson joked in a clip shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“She’s so cute,” he continued of his little one, adding, “You know, I’m amazed by how quickly their personality comes. So even at three months, I’m like, ‘Oh … I can kinda see who she is already.'”

Waterhouse first announced she was pregnant in a sweet reveal during her performance at the Corona Capital Festival in November 2023.

“I’m extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on,” she said at the time, before opening up her coat to reveal her baby bump.

During her set, the singer told fans she is “very lucky to have my own little amazing lady and meet the love of my life.” Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse just revealed the sex of their baby! While performing at Coachella on Friday, April 12, the singer and actress, 32, announced that the baby she and the Twilight alum welcomed last month is a girl.

In a clip captured by a fan, Waterhouse addressed her fans in between songs, saying, “I don’t know if some of you know, but I had some big life changes happen recently, some pretty big events have been going down.”

“I love amazing ladies,” she continued, “and I’ve been very lucky to have my own little amazing lady and meet the love of my life.”

The announcement was fitting considering Waterhouse first announced that she and the actor, 37, were expecting while onstage last year. In November 2023, the Daisy Jones & The Six star shared her pregnancy with the world while performing at the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City.

At the festival, the “Good Looking” singer told the crowd, “I’m extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on.” Waterhouse then revealed a baby bump as the audience cheered and joked, “I’m not sure if it’s working.”

After announcing her pregnancy, a source told PEOPLE that Pattinson and Waterhouse — who first started dating in 2018 and are currently engaged — were “thrilled” to be expecting. “He and Suki are very serious and have been,” the insider said at the time. “A baby coming is an absolute joy for them. They are thrilled beyond words.”

The new parents’ onstage sex reveal also comes a week after the singer shared a photo of herself holding the baby in an Instagram post. Alongside a shot of a Polaroid photo of the mom and daughter, the singer wrote, “Welcome to the world angel ❤️.”
