SUPERMAN Director James Gunn Shares New Cast Photo After Hinting At Plans For Pa Kent In Reboot

Filmmaker James Gunn has once again stirred excitement among fans by sharing a new behind-the-scenes photo from the set of the upcoming Superman reboot. This latest snapshot features a mix of familiar faces, including some from Gunn’s previous work on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

In the photo posted on Threads, we see Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent. Also present are some unnamed producers and a surprise visit from Guardians of the Galaxy star Michael Rooker. Gunn clarified that Rooker was merely visiting, despite earlier rumors suggesting he might be cast as General Sam Lane, Lois Lane’s father. While Gunn’s statement downplays Rooker’s involvement, fans remain hopeful for a potential cameo.

Gunn recently addressed a fan’s question on Facebook about the fate of Jonathan Kent in the film. He hinted that Pa Kent, played by Pruitt Taylor Vince, will be alive, saying, “Well, I don’t think I’d hire Pruitt to play a dead person for an entire film.” This comment has sparked speculation, as Jonathan Kent’s death is a pivotal moment in Superman’s origin story, often motivating Clark Kent to embrace his superhero destiny.

As for Superman’s Kryptonian father, Jor-El, there has been no official word on casting. Rumors have circulated about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Kurt Russell potentially taking on the role, but nothing has been confirmed.

The Superman reboot aims to explore the hero’s journey as he balances his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. David Corenswet will don the iconic cape as the Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane. The cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer.

Supporting characters will be portrayed by Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Pa Kent, Neva Howell as Ma Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Additionally, Milly Alcock is expected to make a cameo appearance as Supergirl, setting the stage for her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Superman is slated for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025. Fans eagerly await more updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses as production continues.
