Sydney Sweeney reacts awkwardly to Samsung AI-generated photo of her

Sydney Sweeney’s awkward reaction to an AI-generated portrait of herself is currently going viral online.

Earlier this week, Sydney attended Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked tech conference in Paris, which was streamed live on YouTube.

During the conference, Sydney was called on by one of the hosts. “I think we’ve got the actor Sydney Sweeney in the audience today. Hey Sydney, are you there?” she asked the room.

The camera then panned to the Euphoria star, who said, “Hi, I’m over here,” as the audience clapped and cheered.

After thanking her for attending the conference, the Samsung representative told Sydney, “We’ve used your portrait to generate a 3D image. Should we take a look?”

Sydney nodded, and the AI-generated image — which gave major Disney princess vibes — was displayed on the screen.

The host asked Sydney, “What do you think?” to which she seemingly awkwardly replied, “Aww, I love it.” Watch the moment for yourself here: Twitter: @sydsnews

She let out a quick giggle before filling the awkward silence by adding, “It’s amazing you can take an image like this.”

Many fans online were left cringing over Sydney’s apparent discomfort.

“That’s an uncomfortable spot to be put on,” one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter, while another said of Sydney’s reaction: “That didn’t seem very genuine lol.”

One more cringed-out user said, “This is so deeply embarrassing.” Someone else echoed, “This is the worst thing I’ve ever watched.”

Sydney Sweeney might be a good actress, but she’s having trouble looking impressed by a computer-generated image of her … even when put on the spot to do so.

The “Immaculate” star was shown a 3D, AI-generated portrait of herself Wednesday at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, and her reaction is worth a look.

Check out the video … Sydney’s asked what she thinks of the computer version of her portrait and she did her best to force a smile, awkwardly saying, “Awww, I love it.”

But, it’s not hard to tell her reaction was more like someone opening a gift to find a pair of socks. We’ve all been there.

Syd really tried to sell it, though, adding … “It’s amazing you can take an image like this.”

Like we said, folks online aren’t all that convinced by Sydney’s reaction … acting chops be damned.

Mostly, it comes off like Sydney doing her best to play nice with the folks at Samsung.

Artificial intelligence can do a lot of things … but it doesn’t look like computers are quite able to capture Sydney’s true beauty. Not yet, anyway.

Sydney Sweeney – and social media – has reacted to Samsung unveiling an AI-generated portrait based on her image at a live event – watch Sweeney’s awkward reaction below.

On Wednesday (July 10), Sweeney attended Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris. During the event, which was streamed online, the camera panned to Sweeney as the company unveiled a 3D image – assisted by AI – that was generated from one Sweeney’s photos.

Sweeney was then asked for her thoughts on the generated image in real time, and social media has caught on to her awkward and uncomfortable response. “Aw, I love it. It’s amazing you can take an image like this,” she chuckles, though the lingering camera reveals a look of discomfort on the actor’s face.

Social media soon began reacting to the clip, with some users on X taking note of her “forced” reaction. “She’s trying to hold it together but her face says everything we need to know,” one user wrote, while another added: “She let out the most contractually forced ‘oh yeah, I love it’”.

You can tell Sydney Sweeney signed a bunch of dumb sponsor contracts when she was less famous so now she’s stuck pretending AI is super cool.

LMAO I’m watching Samsung’s Unpacked livestream and they asked Sidney Sweeney who was in the audience if this awful AI generated image of her was good and she let the most contractually forced “Oh yeah, I love it” #GalaxyUnpacked pic.twitter.com/C4BTh4zhDe

“When Sydney Sweeney said she loved her AI portrait and called the tech amazing she ACTUALLY meant she hated it and it made her feel awkward” is a form of mansplaining… and weird af, c’mon guys. pic.twitter.com/CuzwDYGMa9

Actors and musicians have been increasingly become more involved – whether willingly or unwillingly – with AI in recent times. Most recently, Scarlett Johansson opened up about her disagreement with artificial intelligence company OpenAI after they allegedly used a voice similar to hers for a new ChatGPT system.

Back in May, the actor claimed that when she heard the system’s new voice option, named ‘Sky’, she and her friends and family noticed a similarity between their voices. As a result, she complained to OpenAI, and the voice option was removed.

“We’re all waiting and supporting the passing of legislation to protect everybody’s individual rights,” she said (via Sky News). “This highlights how vulnerable everybody is to [AI] and how little protection people do have – if any – of their work in their likeness,” she added.

In other AI news, Sony Music, UMG and Warner Records have all sued two AI brands for copyright violations.

Yesterday at Samsung Unpacked 2024, actress Sydney Sweeney was shown an AI-generated image of herself and fans think she wasn’t best impressed. Sweeney was no doubt being paid mega bucks to attend the event and she appeared during a segment about the company’s new Galaxy AI “Sketch to Image” feature.

The feature allows Galaxy AI users to make a sketch doodle and the program will dramatically improve it into something much more fleshed out. The feature can also take an existing photo and “reimagine” it into something else. This is where Sweeney comes in.

“We’ve used your portrait to generate a 3D image,” says the host of the event as an AI representation of Sweeney appears on-screen. Despite the actress saying she “loves it”, many people online pointed out that the picture looks “absolutely nothing like her” and suggested Sweeney wasn’t impressed with it either.

“We used a photograph to reproduce a photograph but worse,” writes one person on Instagram. The most awkward interaction of the decade goes to this!” Says Gururaj Youraj Sawant on X (formerly Twitter).

Fans speculated that Sweeney’s reaction “wasn’t genuine”. Of course, it’s impossible to know what Sweeney really thought of the image but some actors worry about AI replacing them — just like photographers. The actors union was on strike last year with AI high among the list of concerns.

The Galaxy AI Sketch to Image feature works a bit like Adobe Photoshop’s Generative Fill Tool, users can doodle on a photograph and the AI will generate an object that it thinks the user is trying to create. There was an example given at Unpacked showing a photo of the River Seine with a crude drawing of a boat on it. The AI then created a convincing image of a boat on the Seine.

“Galaxy AI understands what you’re trying to draw and generates images in different styles for you to choose.
