Austin Butler recently shared an unforgettable experience from a party hosted by Paul McCartney, where Taylor Swift took on the role of DJ. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on June 17, Butler and Kimmel reminisced about the star-studded event at McCartney’s home. Kimmel described it as “the craziest party” he had ever attended, with Butler agreeing, “That was insane.”
The gathering featured an impressive guest list, including Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, and Meryl Streep. Butler revealed that Taylor Swift, known for her hit “Anti-Hero,” was DJing at one point during the party. “She’s [working] at parties now,” Butler joked.
Butler also shared that his favorite era of Swift’s music is Reputation, which he referred to as “the one with the snakes.” He and his girlfriend, model Kaia Gerber, attended Swift’s Eras Tour in Los Angeles in August.
Although Butler didn’t specify which songs Swift played at the party, he did mention feeling starstruck by the other attendees. He recounted hiding in the kitchen, eating pizza, until someone introduced him to Meryl Streep. “I couldn’t believe I was meeting Meryl Streep with Paul McCartney’s vegan pizza in my mouth,” he said.
Butler also recalled a story Bruce Springsteen told him about writing a song for Elvis Presley. Springsteen, a huge Elvis fan, had once sneaked onto the King’s property to try and convince him to record the song. “I had heard this sort of mythical story, and then to hear it from him, of him being a huge Elvis fan and then hopping the gates at Graceland,” Butler shared. “He wanted to give Elvis a song. He somehow evaded the dogs — he’s a fast runner. I’m so bummed I didn’t get to hear that song.”
The party was a surreal experience for Butler, who is known for his role in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. He described the event as a gathering where even Tom Hanks was amazed by the guest list. “It was a party where, like, Tom Hanks is going, ‘Oh, my God, can you believe who’s here?’” Kimmel added.
Butler’s encounter with Meryl Streep was particularly memorable. He compared it to having a high school crush and not knowing how to approach them. “She’s just the greatest,” he said. “You know in high school, when you have a crush on somebody and they’re across the room and you don’t know how to say hello to them? That’s how it was.”
In addition to the party, Butler also mentioned another memorable experience: having tacos with Snoop Dogg and Robert De Niro. He is currently promoting his new film, The Bikeriders, which opens in theaters soon. The movie, set in the 1960s, features Butler as a member of a motorcycle club and stars Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, and Norman Reedus.
Butler’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! provided a glimpse into the extraordinary world of Hollywood parties and the unique experiences that come with them. From Taylor Swift DJing to meeting legendary actors and musicians, the event at McCartney’s house was a night to remember.
