Simone Biles is ready for it — both the 2024 Olympics and Taylor Swift’s praise. The seven-time Olympic medalist rocked the mat on Friday, June 28, for the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials in Minneapolis, throwing some of the hardest tricks the sport has ever seen — in true Biles form. For the start of her floor routine, Biles used the instrumental version of Swift’s song, “…Ready for It” from her 2017 Reputation album. The dramatic tune set the tone for the rest of the routine and Biles came out on top.
After NBC Olympics shared the clip of Biles’ floor routine on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Ready for it?” Swift responded to the video, writing, “Watched this so many times and still unready. She’s ready for it tho👏👏👏🥇🇺🇸❤️.” Team USA’s gymnastics team is set to be announced after the completion of Sunday’s events, but Simone Biles is likely to be chosen for the 2024 Paris Olympics this July. Biles received a standing ovation after she pulled a Yurchenko double pike on the vault. As of Sunday morning, Biles led the all-around standings for the weekend with a score of 58.900.
After the trials, Biles shared photos and videos on Instagram Stories of herself and her husband, Chicago Bears player Jonathan Owens, getting celebratory drinks and him surprising her with Louis Vuitton bags. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift is continuing her multi-billion dollar world tour, finishing out the weekend of shows in Dublin, Ireland. Following her performance of “Cardigan,” Swift revealed that her award-winning 2020 album, folklore “belongs in Ireland.” “How I imagined the album world looking [was like] Ireland. Storytelling with lots of different characters,” she continued. “You guys have that on lock, too. That’s very Irish, the storytelling.” Swift also said this album gave her the chance to play the “narrator” by sharing other stories other than her own.
Greatness recognizes greatness, with Taylor Swift responding to gymnastics legend Simone Biles using her song “…Ready For It?” in her floor routine during the US Olympic trials. The “Down Bad” singer reposted video of Bile’s incredible floor routine from night two of the 2024 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials, and wrote on X: “Watched this so many times and still unready. She’s ready for it tho.” The pop star was reacting to a video of the routine posted by the NBC Olympics & Paralympics account in which Biles performed the triple-double — also known as the “hardest tumbling pass in the world” — as the song from the singer’s 2017 album Reputation played.
Many of Swift’s fans were also excited that Biles used the song for her floor routine. “Song is clearly ‘ready for it?’ and we still weren’t,” someone praised the seven-time Olympic medalist. “Simone Biles starting her floor routine with Taylor Swift is everything,” one fan gushed on X, while another said, “A Simone Biles and Taylor Swift crossover just makes sense.” With two days of trials remaining for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Biles leads the field on Sunday with a score of 58.900 with Jordan Chiles in second place at 56.400, and Suni Lee holding on to third with 56.025.
After her first event – the uneven bars – Biles was in second place. But it was her two favorite events of floor and vault that sent her points soaring to first place and the crowds screaming. For her second floor routine, Biles collaborated with French dancer, Gregory Milan, to choreograph her routine, according to NBC. Her Friday night performance positioned her for a strong run to qualify for the 2024 team the US plans to send to Paris to compete in this year’s Olympic Games. During each Olympics trial, the top-scoring gymnast automatically makes the team that the United States will send to Paris, with four more selected by a committee after the trials end.
Biles famously pulled out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, citing mental health reasons at the time, but her performance at the US Olympic trials signals that she’s back and better than ever. Simone Biles is hoping to make it to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, and from the looks of the first day of trials, she’s definitely “Ready for It.” During Day 1 of the U.S. Olympic Team Gymnastic Trials in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday, June 28, the 27-year-old athlete lived up to her reputation as the most decorated gymnast in history by giving a floor routine that was nothing short of killer—and she gave a little nod to Taylor Swift in the process.
Biles started out her floor routine on Friday with a snippet of Swift’s 2017 hit song, “Ready For It?,” kicking off her performance with quite a bang—and gymnastics fans and Swifties alike were completely eating it up. “simone biles starting her floor routine with taylor swift is everything,” one fan gushed on X after seeing a clip of Biles’ performance, while someone else said, “A Simone Biles and Taylor Swift crossover just makes sense.” “Knew she was a KILLA!!!” another fan wrote, referencing the lyrics of Swift’s song. “Song is clearly ‘ready for it?’ and we still weren’t,” someone else wrote in praise of the seven-time Olympic medalist.
Right off the bat, Biles landed a triple double, known as the “hardest tumbling pass in the entire world,” according to the NBC Olympics announcers. It made sense that Biles would come out strong to the Swift track, released on the singer’s album reputation, which is chock-full of themes about coming back with a vengeance. As we know, Biles famously pulled out of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for mental health reasons, but it seems that she is back and better than ever. So—as Swift would say, “Baby, let the games begin!”
