The British Conservative Party will choose its new leader in November.

The UK’s Conservative Party has confirmed that it will elect a new leader in November. This announcement comes after Rishi Sunak resigned following a significant electoral defeat earlier this month, where the Labour Party secured a substantial victory.

Sunak will remain in his role as the interim leader of the Conservatives during the internal election process. Although no candidates have officially declared yet, speculation suggests that several prominent figures may run. These include former Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick, ex-Home Secretaries Suella Braverman and Priti Patel, Shadow Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, Shadow Security Minister Tom Tugendhat, and Shadow Communities Secretary Kemi Badenoch, as reported by the BBC.

Candidates will be able to register as early as this Wednesday. To proceed to the first round of voting, each candidate will need the backing of at least ten Members of Parliament. This initial round will narrow the field down to four candidates. Following this, the remaining contenders will have the opportunity to address party members before the Conservative conference on September 29. Ultimately, two candidates will face off in a final online vote scheduled for October 31.

The new Conservative leader will face the challenging task of rebuilding a party that has entered a period of turmoil after a 14-year tenure in power. The party has been marked by internal disputes and dissatisfaction with Sunak’s leadership.
