The national government has called for a meeting with business representatives this Wednesday at noon at the Secretariat of Labor. The purpose of this gathering is to advance the establishment of the Mayo Council.
This tripartite table is made up of government officials, business leaders, and union representatives. Their goal is to translate into legislation the agreements signed by President Javier Milei with 18 governors from different sectors in Tucumán last July.
The meeting, led by Labor Secretary Julio Cordero, will feature an open agenda. Key figures expected to attend include Daniel Funes de Rioja from the Argentine Industrial Union, Nicolás Pino from the Argentine Rural Society, Natalio Mario Grinman from the Argentine Chamber of Commerce, Gustavo Weiss from the Argentine Construction Chamber, Adelmo Gabbi from the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, and Javier Bolzico from the Argentine Bankers Association.
This situation does not sit well with authoritarian figures.

The eighth point of the Mayo Pact states that a “modern labor reform promoting formal employment” will be legislated, and this, like other points of the agreement, will emerge from the Mayo Council.
Following his discussions with the leadership of the CGT (General Confederation of Labor), Cordero aims to establish a tripartite table representing labor unions, employers, and the government. He mentioned that this would involve looking, listening, and participating as a cohesive group.
Cordero noted that the dialogue will focus particularly on issues related to labor content. He emphasized that although the legislative process took time, the dialogue and consensus generated have led to a meaningful national debate.
After last week’s meeting between CGT leaders and Cordero, Hector Daer mentioned that there would be a technical table set up following the gathering with business representatives. This table is intended to clarify the regulations of various articles that have been vaguely defined and originated from the labor chapter of the Bases Law. They are also expected to address two specific requests: issues related to the Supreme Court and adjustments to the starting point for the Income Tax.
The labor federation expressed that they had asked Secretary Cordero to withdraw the appeal made by the Attorney General’s Office to the Supreme Court concerning a favorable ruling for the CGT regarding the unconstitutionality of the labor chapter in Decree 70/23, which was obtained from the Labor Appeals Chamber.
Additionally, they raised concerns about the approved Bases Law, critiquing certain articles passed by Congress regarding aspects of the so-called “Labor Reform,” such as union freedom, anti-discrimination protections, labor intermediation, self-employed “collaborators,” and oversight of informal employment.
