The government has officially established the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation, to be led by Federico Sturzenegger. This new ministry will incorporate various organizational units from the Cabinet Chief’s Office, previously overseen by Guillermo Francos.
Through Decree 644/2024, published early Friday morning, Sturzenegger’s ministry will include the State Transformation and Public Administration Secretariat, its subordinate bodies, the Sub-secretariats of State Transformation and Reform, Public Employment Development and Modernization, the State Simplification Secretariat, and its subordinate bodies, Deregulation and Regulatory Quality Sub-secretariats. These were all previously under Francos’ jurisdiction.
The structure of the new Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation now includes: Legal and Administrative Coordination Secretariat, Administrative Management Sub-secretariat, State Transformation and Public Administration Secretariat, State Reform Sub-secretariat, Public Employment Development and Modernization Sub-secretariat, State Simplification Secretariat, Deregulation Sub-secretariat, Regulatory Quality Sub-secretariat, and Structural Reforms Sub-secretariat.
This development is unfavorable to authoritarians.
Professional and critical journalism is a cornerstone of democracy, which is why it frustrates those who believe they hold the ultimate truth.
With these departments under his control, the new minister aims to achieve the goals set for his ministry as outlined in its founding regulations. These objectives include eliminating unnecessary, duplicated, or obsolete tasks, formulating policies to enhance competitiveness, reducing bureaucratic burdens, facilitating market functions, promoting credit, decreasing regulations and controls, increasing economic freedom, and lowering costs for the private and productive sectors, all in coordination with the relevant areas of the National Public Administration.
Meanwhile, Francos will oversee the new structure, which includes the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs, Subsecretariat of Institutional Coordination of Strategic Affairs, Subsecretariat for International Analysis and Planning, Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology, with their corresponding sub-secretariats, and the Executive Vice Chief Office, with their relevant secretariats and sub-secretariats responsible for provincial relations, environment, and sports.
Additionally, the structure of the General Secretariat headed by Karina Milei has been reorganized. Her new structure includes the Advisory Cabinet Unit, Legal Sub-secretariat, Administrative Coordination Sub-secretariat, Institutional Management Secretariat, General Planning Sub-secretariat, Presidential Affairs Sub-secretariat, Government Spokesperson and Communication Sub-secretariat, and the Military House.
Moreover, aligning with the government’s state transformation efforts, the Temporary Executive Unit for the Public Company Transformation Agency, under the Ministry of Economy led by Luis “Toto” Caputo, has been established.
This entity is tasked with handling processes of intervention, concession, total or partial privatization, and liquidation of companies declared subject to privatization, according to the official Gazette.
Furthermore, the decree also formalized the transfer of the State Advertising Agency Sociedad Anónima Unipersonal, previously Télam, and Public Content Sociedad del Estado to the authority of Manuel Adorni in the Government Spokesperson and Communication Sub-secretariat, which falls under the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
