The PSOE has announced plans to challenge the decision made by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to summon the President of the Government and Secretary General of the party for questioning. They argue that this latest development is “unjustified” and underscores the “political” nature of the case.
In a statement, the PSOE highlighted that all the procedures carried out thus far show that “there is no basis for any case.” They reference reports from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, testimonies taken, and the motions presented by the prosecution as evidence supporting their claim.
The party described the new proceedings as completely unjustified, asserting that they reflect the political motivations behind the case. They intend to appeal this decision, which according to them, should initially be pursued by the defense of the President’s wife, Begoña Gómez, since the PSOE is not officially part of the proceedings.
The PSOE claims that this situation represents a “political persecution orchestrated by the right and far-right” against the President and his family. They believe that the Popular Party (PP) and Vox are attempting, through “dark maneuvers,” to achieve what they could not in the general elections held on July 23, now almost a year ago.
They argue that the case is “orchestrated” and based on a “prospective” investigation that is prohibited under Spanish law and lacks a legal foundation. Nevertheless, they are confident that justice will prevail, insisting that the PP and Vox “will not succeed.” They conclude by stating, “Truth and democracy will triumph over this democratic assault.”
