The U.S. Army Announces the Destruction of Four Houthi Drones Over the Red Sea

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that they had successfully destroyed four Houthi drones over the Red Sea in the past 24 hours. This action coincides with a declaration from the leader of the Ansarullah movement, Sayed Abdulmalik al-Huthi, that they would initiate a new phase of hostilities against Israel.

CENTCOM shared this information via their social media account, stating that the drones posed an “imminent threat” to international coalition forces and commercial vessels in the region.

The Houthis, who control the densely populated areas of Yemen, have conducted attacks against Israeli territory and vessels they suspect of having connections to Israel. This escalation follows the conflict that intensified in Gaza after Hamas’s attacks on October 7.

One of the most significant recent incidents involved a drone strike on Tel Aviv, resulting in one fatality and ten injuries. In retaliation, Israel targeted the port of Hodeida, leading to six deaths and 86 injuries.

Additionally, the Houthis have attacked U.S. and British strategic assets in response to the aerial bombardments carried out by these nations in Yemen. The justification provided by Washington and London for their military involvement is to ensure the safety of navigation in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Indian Ocean.
