This Is How an Actor Truly Feels When Their Show Gets Canceled

The 41-year-old actor has spent over 20 years working with The CW, appearing in shows like “Gilmore Girls” and “Supernatural.” However, he is disappointed with the ending of his latest project, “Walker,” which has been canceled before the conclusion of its fourth season. In his view, the network is shifting away from quality content to offer easier, cheaper alternatives to fill airtime.

In an interview with Variety, he expressed, “I feel like the CW I was part of last year is not the CW I was with Mark Pedowitz for nearly 20 years. They are changing the network into something that will no longer be a television channel. Instead, it feels more like a place to find something fun to watch for an hour—something you’ll never revisit but might enjoy in the moment. And it’s all very inexpensive.”

The actor acknowledges that it may seem ungrateful to criticize the very network that has employed him for so long, but he believes it’s important to speak his mind, regardless of potential backlash. After all, he can’t be fired twice. He feels that honesty is necessary in the industry.

He revealed, “I spoke with the head of CBS [Studios] and the head of Nexstar/CW. I also discussed things with the other executive producers of ‘Walker,’ and it sounds like it was a complex issue. From what I understand—again, just what I’ve been told—Nexstar is taking The CW in a different direction. I mean, they have an hour of ‘Trivial Pursuit’ and an hour of ‘Scrabble.’ I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just download an app or grab a board game to play with your friends. It seems like… how does that old saying go? If someone tells you who they are, ask questions. If someone shows you who they are, believe them.”

The abrupt cancellation of “Walker” has left Jared grieving. He had hoped the show would continue for many years but did not get the chance to say goodbye to the cast and crew in a way he wanted.

“I left for two days to work in Europe and then enjoy a short vacation with my wife and kids, who joined me there,” he shared. “It was strange, horrible, and wonderful all at once. It was awful because I felt like crying. I wanted to sit down and call my cast. But being eight or ten hours ahead of their time zone made it hard to reach out to everyone I wanted to. I would wake up to their messages, feeling a need for personal connection with those I had worked alongside for so long. But it was also great because I had plenty of distractions. I still feel like I haven’t properly grieved the loss of ‘Walker,’ so I’m not sure if I trust my feelings right now.”
