With the nominations round of Emmy voting complete, the anticipation now shifts to the announcement of the nominees in July. This year, the honor of revealing the Emmy nominations will be bestowed upon two previous Emmy winners: Tony Hale and Sheryl Lee Ralph. The duo will lead the nominations ceremony on Wednesday, July 17, at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. The event will be live-streamed on the Television Academy’s Emmy website.
Television Academy chair Cris Abrego expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “While this year has been marked by significant challenges for our industry and its workforce, there has been an abundance of remarkable programs, extraordinary performances, and impactful storytelling. Great television relies on the contributions of so many, and we are delighted to have Tony and Sheryl help us acknowledge excellence across our field as we embark on a season of tremendous celebration.”
Tony Hale, a three-time Emmy winner, is best known for his role as Gary Walsh on HBO’s “Veep,” for which he won two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2013 and 2015. Hale also received an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Children’s Program for his work in “The Mysterious Benedict Society” at the previous telecast. He is set to appear next in Netflix’s period comedy “The Decameron.”
Sheryl Lee Ralph, a recent Emmy winner, took home her first statuette in 2022 for her supporting role in “Abbott Elementary.” She is considered a strong contender for a nomination for her third consecutive season on the ABC sitcom. This summer, Ralph will star in the feature film “The Fabulous Four” alongside Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, and Megan Mullally.
The nominations announcement will commence at 8:30 a.m. PT (11:30 a.m. ET). The actual Emmy Awards will be handed out on Sunday, September 15, during a live ABC telecast.
