LENOX, Mass. — Lenox Memorial High School has proudly announced Genevieve Collins as the valedictorian and Alice Culver as the salutatorian for the class of 2024.
The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Tanglewood.
Genevieve Collins, daughter of Edward and Deanna Collins of Lenox, has been an exemplary student. She is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. Collins has also shown her leadership skills as a captain of the Lenox track and field and cross-country teams and as a peer mentor.
Her musical talents are equally impressive. She has been singing in the choir at St. Ann’s Church in Lenox for 12 years and has performed in the All-State chorus in 2022 and 2023. Last summer, she participated in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and the year before, she sang at the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina.
Collins has received several prestigious awards, including the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Academic Excellence Award and the Harvard Book Award. This fall, she will be attending Brown University to study music.
Alice Culver, daughter of Jennifer and Edward Culver of Lenox, is also a standout student. She is an officer in the National Honor Society and a member of the National Art Honor Society. Like Collins, she is a peer mentor and a captain of the cross-country, Nordic skiing, and track teams. Culver is a National Merit Commended student and has received the Seal of Biliteracy for French. She has also been awarded the Dartmouth Book Award and academic awards in mathematics, biology, and English. This spring, she organized a drive at the high school to collect goods for the Elizabeth Freeman Center.
Culver’s athletic achievements are remarkable. She is a two-time Western Mass two-mile champion (2023, 2024), a one-mile champion (2022), and a Western Mass cross-country champion (2023). She earned MVP honors for Berkshire County for the 2023 cross-country season and holds the school record in the two-mile.
Culver will be attending Williams College, where she plans to study statistics and compete on the college’s cross-country and track teams.
The class of 2024 at Lenox Memorial High School is set to graduate 61 seniors. The ceremony will be a momentous occasion, with Collins and Culver delivering speeches that reflect their academic and personal journeys.
The announcement of the top students for 2024 follows the tradition of excellence at Lenox Memorial High School. Last year, Maxwell Adam and Jack O’Brien were named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the class of 2023. Both students delivered speeches at their graduation ceremony, also held at Tanglewood.
Maxwell Adam, son of Dr. Wendy Adam and Sharon Alpert of Lenox, was a member of the National Honor Society and the “As Schools Match Wits” competition Quiz Team. He was also the president of the Math Club and Investment Club, a volunteer tutor, and a peer mentor. Adam was a captain of the cross-country and track teams and volunteered at Berkshire Thunder, a local youth running group, during the summer.
Adam received numerous accolades, including the Cornell Book Award, gold medals in the National Latin Exam, and AP Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction awards. He also received Achievement Awards in World History, World Language, Mathematics, and Expository Writing. He led his team to a cross-country State Championship in 2022, earning MVP honors for Berkshire County, and was an all-state qualifier on the track.
Adam is now attending Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he is pursuing majors in mathematical sciences and environmental computation while competing on the cross-country and track teams.
Jack O’Brien, son of Isabel Roche and Stephen O’Brien of Lenox, was a member of the varsity tennis team, the Active Minds club, the National Honor Society, and the National Art Honor Society. He was also involved in the Peer Mentoring and Peer Tutoring programs. In September 2022, he co-led the implementation of BeKind21, a program that promotes random acts of kindness at the school throughout the month of September.
O’Brien received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and academic awards in photography, French, expository writing, and mathematics. He also received the Harvard Book Award.
O’Brien is now attending Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he is studying history and government.
The achievements of these students highlight the dedication and hard work that define Lenox Memorial High School. As the class of 2024 prepares to graduate, the community looks forward to celebrating their accomplishments and the bright futures that lie ahead.
