Tori Spelling Stores 2 Placentas in Freezer Ex Dean McDermott Cooked and Seasoned Another

Tori Spelling, the “Beverly Hills 90210” alum and mother of five, recently shared some intriguing details about her personal life on her “misSPELLING” podcast. Among the revelations, she disclosed that she stores two of her children’s placentas in her freezer and has even consumed one, prepared by her ex-husband, Dean McDermott.

During the podcast episode, Spelling humorously commented on the unusual items in her freezer. “I will comment on the last thing [people] would think I have in my freezer, though. And that would be my placenta,” she said. “Unsure which child. There’s 2 in there. So unless I have, like, the biggest placenta in the world, there’s 2 vats in there.”

Spelling explained that keeping placentas is not uncommon and mentioned various beliefs about their benefits. “This is normal,” she continued. “Because there’s all that fancy stuff you’re supposed to do. They say it’s good luck to eat it, or it’s good luck to bury it, or it’s good luck to, you know, have it sent and made into that powder and they put into pills and I’m just too lazy to send it out.”

The actress, who shares children Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, 7, with her ex-husband Dean McDermott, also revealed that she asked a close friend to store her youngest son’s placenta. “His is still in her freezer,” Spelling shared. “You want to talk good friends? She came to the hospital the day Beau was born… But because I had a C-section and we had complications and Beau had something [where] we had to stay in the hospital for a bit. I said, ‘Jess, can you take the placenta home because they’ve given it to me and I don’t know what to do with it?’ So she, like a proper best friend, did take it home.”

Despite her friend’s repeated requests for Spelling to retrieve the placenta, the actress admitted she hasn’t gotten around to it yet but plans to do so eventually. “I’m going to one day,” she said.

Spelling also mentioned that due to frequent moves, some placentas were lost. “We move a lot, so unfortunately a couple got lost,” she admitted. “Imagine they got lost or left at a rental. Imagine you open up a freezer and… that would be interesting to put on eBay.”

In a surprising twist, Spelling revealed that McDermott, who is an accomplished chef, once cooked and seasoned her placenta. “Dean’s an amazing chef. So I mean, it was like, a little truffle oil, little salt and pepper. He cooked it and seasoned it and it was actually really good,” she said.

The practice of consuming placentas, known as placentophagy, is believed by some to offer health benefits, although scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited. Spelling defended the practice, saying, “It’s supposed to be good. It’s something that’s good for your body and they take it out of your body and it’s good to put it back in your body.”

However, Dr. Angela Bianco, an OBGYN at Mount Sinai, expressed skepticism about the benefits of eating placentas. “There are some people that believe it can reduce the rate of anemia, that it can increase patients or women’s protein levels and enhance energy and metabolism,” she said. “There’s no scientific evidence available to date in humans that any of these benefits are substantiated.”

Dr. Bianco also highlighted the lack of regulation in the industry that processes placentas for consumption. “The process is not FDA approved, and there’s no regulation,” she noted. “I don’t think that there’s any scientific evidence that it really improves the postpartum experience and overall maternal health postpartum.”

Spelling’s podcast has been a platform for her to share various personal stories, including her first breast augmentation surgery, which took place at a strip mall. “My first boob job, I had a friend at the time,” she said. “It was the bad boyfriend I talk about, it was his friend’s girlfriend, and she was like, ‘Oh you just have to go to this place.’ I went to this doctor, and it was in a strip mall. I can’t make this up. I think he was a fine doctor. It was just an outpatient surgery center in a strip mall. I was 19, so I was like, ‘Uh this isn’t Beverly Hills,’ I was confused.”

Spelling’s candidness about her life, including her recent split from McDermott after 18 years of marriage, has been a recurring theme on her podcast. She acknowledged that her openness sometimes embarrasses her children. “My kids are like, ‘Ugh, Mom, stop putting us out there and talking about us.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s kind of our day job. I don’t know what to tell you,'” she shared.

Despite the mixed opinions on placentophagy, Spelling’s stories offer a glimpse into her unique approach to motherhood and life, blending humor with personal insights.
