Trump questions Taylor Swift’s politics

Former President Donald Trump has recently expressed his views on pop sensation Taylor Swift, questioning the authenticity of her political stance. In a series of interviews with Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh for the upcoming book “Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass,” Trump shared his thoughts on Swift’s beauty and political inclinations.

Trump described Swift as “unusually beautiful,” emphasizing her physical appearance multiple times. “I think she’s beautiful – very beautiful. I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented,” Trump said, according to Setoodeh. He continued to question whether Swift’s liberal views are genuine or merely an act, expressing surprise that a country star could be successful while holding liberal beliefs.

Swift, who has been vocal about her political views, notably supported the Biden-Harris campaign in 2020. She accused Trump of “stoking the fires of White supremacy and racism your entire presidency.” Despite this, Trump seemed skeptical about her political authenticity. “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal,” Trump remarked.

Trump admitted he is not well-acquainted with Swift’s music and seemed unaware of her transition from country to pop. This lack of familiarity did not stop him from commenting on her political stance and its potential impact on her career.

Swift has maintained a significant presence in pop culture, with her “Eras Tour” and her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce keeping her in the public eye. Earlier this year, the New York Times reported that President Biden’s aides were eager to secure Swift’s endorsement for his re-election campaign, recognizing her influence and potential to energize voters.

On National Voter Registration Day in 2023, Swift encouraged her fans to register to vote via an Instagram story, resulting in 35,252 registrations through Vote.org. This move underscores her commitment to political engagement and her ability to mobilize her fan base.

Trump’s comments on Swift are not new. In a 2018 Instagram post, Swift endorsed Tennessee Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives, breaking her long silence on political matters. At the time, Trump responded by saying he liked Swift’s music “about 25% less” following her endorsement.

In a recent interview with the Daily Caller, Trump commented on Swift’s relationship with Kelce, wishing them well but expressing doubt about the longevity of their romance. He also took to Truth Social to highlight his signing of The Music Modernization Act during his presidency, contrasting his actions with what he perceives as Biden’s lack of support for Swift.

Trump’s remarks on Swift’s political views and their potential impact on her career reflect his ongoing interest in the intersection of celebrity and politics. As Swift continues to be a prominent figure in both the music industry and political discourse, her influence remains a point of discussion and speculation.
