Trump said that Biden “was unfit to run for the presidency” and that Harris would be easier to defeat

Joe Biden “was not fit to run” and “is certainly not fit to serve” as president, said his Republican rival Donald Trump on Sunday, following Biden’s announcement to withdraw from the presidential race.

“The corrupt Joe Biden was not fit to run for president, and he certainly is not fit to serve. He never was!” Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, shortly after Biden’s announcement.

“Biden only became president through lies, fake news, and hiding in his basement,” Trump added. “Everyone around him, including his doctor and the media, knew he was not capable of being president, and he wasn’t. Now, look what he has done to our country, with millions of people crossing our border unchecked, many from prisons, psychiatric institutions, and a record number of terrorists.”

Trump further criticized Biden’s presidency: “We will suffer greatly from his time in office, but we will quickly fix the damage he’s caused. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” He declared Biden as the worst president in the history of the United States on Truth Social.

Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, stating, “I believe it’s in the best interest of the party and the country for me to step down.” Senior Republican Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House of Representatives, insisted that Biden should “immediately” resign as president after the announcement, citing Biden’s age and capability concerns.

“Joe Biden should immediately resign as president. November 5th can’t come soon enough,” Johnson said in a statement.

Biden, 81, announced his withdrawal amidst speculation about his physical and mental capabilities and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.

“While it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to withdraw from the race and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” Biden stated on social media platform X. He also mentioned that he would address the nation later in the week.

Biden also expressed his full support for Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate. “Today, I wish to offer my full support and endorsement to Kamala Harris to be our party’s nominee this year,” he declared on X.

Donald Trump mocked Harris as a potential presidential candidate, telling CNN: “She will be easier to defeat.”

With the Democratic convention in Chicago starting on August 19, the party now needs to find a successor. Kamala Harris would be a natural but not automatic choice to become the Democratic candidate. The final decision rests with the party’s delegates, 3,900 individuals with diverse backgrounds, largely unknown to the public.
