Two Colombian police officers injured in “highly lethal” bomb attack in Bogotá

Two police officers in Bogotá, Colombia, were injured on Thursday after a group of masked individuals hurled explosives at their patrol near the National University. The explosives used in the attack were described as “highly lethal,” prompting the officers to return fire in response.

The incident occurred around 5:00 PM local time when three attackers assaulted a Transmilenio staff member in the vicinity of the university. According to a statement from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, the police patrol, which consisted of two officers, was targeted with five improvised explosives containing shrapnel. The injured officers were subsequently taken to the Central Hospital of the National Police for medical evaluation.

A video circulating on social media, reported by the radio station W Radio, captures the moment the assailants launched several explosives, including a Molotov cocktail, before fleeing the scene.

Bogotá’s mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, stated that the police patrol was present in that area due to warnings of potential disturbances involving explosives. He emphasized that such actions do not constitute a legitimate protest and should be prosecuted.
