A group of armed robbers, consisting of eight criminals, violently assaulted a restaurant in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Parque Chacabuco while around 60 diners were enjoying dinner on the eve of “Friendship Day.”

The robbery, which lasted about ten minutes, took place last Friday night at the restaurant “El Nuevo Miguelito,” located at 400 Zañartu Street. The restaurant is a popular meeting spot for members of the professional soccer teams San Lorenzo and Huracán.

The whole incident was captured on a security camera and began shortly after 11 PM. The assailants arrived in an old Ford Escort and initially targeted patrons seated at the outdoor tables.

This doesn’t sit well with authoritarians.

Professional and critical journalism is a fundamental pillar of democracy. It annoys those who believe they hold the absolute truth.

In the midst of the chaos, some victims managed to alert those inside the restaurant, allowing employees and some customers to take refuge in the back of the establishment.

According to witnesses, the thieves stole wallets, gold jewelry, and cell phones. One customer was also pistol-whipped to intimidate him. “I just kept looking down and saying ‘yes’ because I didn’t want to see their weapons,” recounted the assaulted man in a statement published by Infobae.

After the criminals escaped, some people present mentioned that the incident felt “unusual.” “It’s not illogical to think the place would be packed on Friendship Day, but it’s odd they took such a risk with so many of them. Some even suspected hooligans because the next day was the San Lorenzo-Huracán derby,” stated one of the affected diners.
