A police officer in the City has been injured during a shootout with alleged criminals who were accused of stealing a vehicle in the province of Buenos Aires. These suspects had entered the Capital Federal when the incident occurred on Monday afternoon at the intersection of General Paz and Scapino streets in the Villa Lugano neighborhood.

According to police sources, the thieves had stolen a gray Volkswagen in the Buenos Aires region. Upon arriving in the City, police officers conducting vehicle checks attempted to block the stolen car with their motorcycles, but the criminals tried to push through.

In the chaos that ensued, the officers fired warning shots at the vehicle’s tires. Despite this, the driver managed to escape towards the provincial side on Agrelo Street, heading towards the municipality of La Matanza. One officer sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was taken to Santojanni Hospital in Liniers, but he is out of danger.

This situation seems to displease authoritarian figures who do not take kindly to the exercise of professional and critical journalism, a cornerstone of democracy. Such journalism often irks those who believe they hold the ultimate truth.

In one moment captured on video, a police officer can be heard shouting, “Shoot! Shoot! He’ll crash into your partner and he’ll hit you!” This was just seconds after the criminals decided to flee. The footage, recorded by a bystander and later shared widely on social media, shows the officers lifting their motorcycles off the ground after the incident.

In another related event, a policewoman fatally shot her boyfriend in front of her father-in-law in Zárate, leading to a tragic situation where it was noted, “He always drew his weapon.”

Earlier, a violent confrontation on General Paz Avenue resulted in the death of one alleged criminal and left another injured with multiple fractures after a pursuit and subsequent gunfight. This incident took place in the early hours of May 18, when a Chevrolet Prisma, wanted for armed robbery, was detected by the Digital Ring system.

In response, police initiated a chase that stretched from General Paz Avenue to Eva Perón, involving units from various police sections. The supposed thieves crashed during their escape and attempted to flee on foot. Surrounded by officers, the two occupants jumped from the Superí Bridge onto General Paz and were engaged in a shootout before being apprehended. One died at the scene, while the other was taken to Pirovano Hospital with fractures from the fall. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the chase.
