Vivek Agnihotri has expressed a strong reaction to the recent incident involving Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. The actress was reportedly slapped by a female CISF personnel, who was allegedly upset with Kangana’s statements on the farmers’ protests. Kangana later issued a statement about the incident, and filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took to social media to share his thoughts.
Agnihotri posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), “This incident with @KanganaTeam must be condemned by every sane person. Why do I say ‘sane’? Because only sane people understand how dangerous it is for a democracy. Those who are laughing at Kangana must know that many people don’t like your tweets either. And you fly too.”
Kangana, who was traveling to Delhi when the incident occurred, later said in a video statement, “I am safe. I am perfectly fine. The incident took place during the security check. After I was done with the security check, a woman constable of the CISF waited for me to pass through the cabin. Later, she came from the side, hit me in the face and started abusing me. When I asked her why she did this, she told me that she (CISF official) had supported the farmers’ protest. My question is how we end growing extremism and terrorism in Punjab.”
A day later, Kangana took to her Instagram stories to criticize the industry for not supporting her after the incident. She wrote, “All eyes on Rafah Gang this can happen to you or your children as well. When you celebrate a terror attack on someone be ready for the day it comes back to you as well.”
The incident has sparked a range of reactions from social media users and public figures. Vivek Agnihotri, known for his outspoken socio-political views, backed Kangana after she was mocked by some users over the incident. He reiterated that the incident must be condemned by every sane person, emphasizing the dangers it poses to democracy.
Uorfi Javed also shared her opinion on the incident through her Instagram stories. She wrote, “Don’t agree with Kangana Ranaut politically but I still feel it ain’t right to physically assault someone when you disagree with them. Not cool. Violence is never the answer.”
The CISF constable involved in the incident was identified as Kulwinder Kaur. According to reports, she was detained and subsequently suspended after Kangana filed a complaint with CISF officials upon her arrival at Indira Gandhi airport. Kulwinder later explained to the media that she was hurt by Kangana’s remarks on the farmers’ protests, stating, “She gave a statement… that farmers are sitting there for ₹ 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement…”
Kangana had previously spoken out against the farmers’ protests in 2021, receiving criticism for her views at that time. She recently won the Lok Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, defeating Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh by a significant margin.
In her statement, Kangana assured everyone that she is safe and fine, while also questioning the growing extremism and terrorism in Punjab. She said, “Namastey dosto! I have been getting a lot of phone calls from the media and my well-wishers. I am safe, I am perfectly fine. What happened at the Chandigarh airport today was during the security check. When I left after the security check, the CISF personnel hit me on my face. She abused me. When I asked her why she did it, she told me that she supports farmers’ protests. I am safe but my concern is, how do we handle terror in Punjab?”
The incident has also drawn comments from other public figures. Renowned music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani expressed his willingness to support the CISF personnel involved. In his Instagram Stories, Vishal posted a video report of the incident and captioned it, “I do not ever support violence, but I absolutely understand the need of this @official_cisf personnel’s anger. If any action is taken against her by the CISF, I will ensure that she has a job waiting for her should she choose to accept it. Jai Hind. Jai Jawaan. Jai Kisaan.”
The incident has highlighted the polarized reactions within the industry and among the public. While some have condemned the physical assault on Kangana, others have expressed understanding of the CISF personnel’s actions, given the context of Kangana’s controversial statements on the farmers’ protests.
