Rapper Sexyy Red found herself at the center of a chaotic scene at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday, leading to her arrest. The incident, which has since gone viral, involved a brawl between her entourage and another group, captured on security footage at United Airlines gate C82.
The footage shows a group of men engaged in a physical altercation before Sexyy Red, whose real name is Janae Nierah Wherry, enters the frame wielding a metal pole. Before she could use it, another individual intervened, causing her to lose her balance and fall. The video later shows her running off-camera and returning with what appears to be a wig in her hand as the scuffle continues.
As the fight escalated, airport security intervened, apprehending several individuals. Sexyy Red was taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct, while others faced assault charges. Some individuals were injured severely enough to require hospitalization.
Following her release, Sexyy Red took to social media to address the incident. In a video posted from a car, she stated she had “just got out.” She also shared a now-deleted Instagram Story offering to replace the phone of someone involved in the altercation, suggesting the fight may have started over a photo someone took of her.
Despite the arrest, Sexyy Red managed to perform at the Governors Ball in New York and fulfill her hosting duties at the WWE NXT Battleground. She later posted a video on Instagram with the caption, “Dat wasn’t df me,” while playing her song “TTG” in the background, which includes the lyrics, “All my b**s trained to go, Bh, we TTG.”
This incident follows a recent run-in with authorities at the U.S.-Mexico border, where she was stopped for carrying undeclared money and jewelry.
On Tuesday, June 11, TMZ shared the clip showing the “Skee Yee” rapper and her entourage getting into it with another group, resulting in multiple arrests. In the video, the St. Louis star can be seen walking up with a stanchion as if she was preparing to hit someone with it. Fortunately, a guy can be seen pulling her away, keeping her from getting into the thick of it. However, it appears that Red stepped out of frame and continued to possibly get physical.
The New Jersey Port Authority issued a statement to XXL, confirming the incident. “At 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th, PAPD were called to respond to a fight in progress at EWR Terminal C, gate 82,” the statement reads. “Two victims were found to have lacerations to their heads. The two males accompanying Ms. Wherry, Leslie Baptiste and Carl Thompson, were arrested for assault, and Ms. Wherry was arrested for disorderly conduct. The male victims were transported to University Hospital with minor injuries.”
Reportedly, on Monday morning, June 10, Sexyy Red revealed that she was released from detainment with a message on Instagram. She also shared that she was hanging with Kodak Black. “I just got out, good morning,” she said in a clip.
She also offered to replace a phone that was damaged during the brawl. “To the people that was in that altercation at the airport please dm me so I can replace yo phone!!”
Sexyy Red was arrested after she was reportedly involved in a wild brawl at an airport in New Jersey, and it was all caught on tape. On Tuesday, June 11, TMZ published security footage from a terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport. The video shows several people from her team throwing bows at another group. Big Sexyy appears to jump into the brawl while wearing a red bonnet and holding a stanchion. She was held back by a member of her team while the scuffle continued. Sexyy managed to break free a couple times, but she went out of the frame so we can’t see what happened there. The “Get It Sexyy” rapper and several others were arrested early Saturday morning. Sexyy Red was hit with minor charges of disorderly conduct while the others were charged with assault. Meanwhile, the alleged victims were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. It’s still not clear what led up to the brawl. Sexyy Red addressed her brief stint in jail after she was released. She took to her Instagram Story and posted a video of herself in the car with her crew. She also offered to replace the victims’ phones. “To the people that was in that altercation at the airport please dm me so I can replace yo phone!!” she wrote. It looks like the St. Louis artist is handling the situation well despite how crazy the footage looks.
