The current climate change scenario has left Paraguay’s eco-regions vulnerable. The country is among the leading nations in deforestation and soil erosion. Reports indicate that Paraguay has lost 90% of its original tree cover over the past 50 years due mainly to agricultural and livestock activities. In 2009, a bill known as “Zero Deforestation” was rejected by the Chamber of Deputies, which aimed to prohibit deforestation practices.
