After seven years in the K-pop industry, Weki Meki is set to disband, marking the end of an era with their final single.
Today at 6 PM KST, Weki Meki will unveil their new digital single ‘CoinciDestiny’ across various online music platforms.
‘CoinciDestiny’ is a heartfelt track that encapsulates the deep bond between the eight members and their fans. The song portrays their journey as a series of seemingly coincidental yet destined events. Weki Meki expresses their gratitude to the fans who have supported them throughout their seven-year career.
Ji Suyeon, a member of the group, took part in writing and composing the song, embedding it with Weki Meki’s unique narrative and genuine emotions. The song features a hopeful melody, ethereal synth sounds, and the members’ sweet voices, promising to leave a lasting impression.
Weki Meki debuted in 2017 and has since released five mini albums and several singles, earning a dedicated fanbase. Known for their strong vocal, rap, and performance skills, they have delivered numerous hits such as ‘Siesta,’ ‘Tiki-Taka (99%),’ ‘Picky Picky,’ ‘DAZZLE DAZZLE,’ and ‘La La La.’
The members have also ventured into various fields, including OSTs, musicals, dramas, variety shows, and YouTube content, showcasing their diverse talents and charms.
Weki Meki’s final single ‘CoinciDestiny,’ which captures their radiant brilliance, will be available on various online music sites starting at 6 PM KST today.
Fantagio Music announced that the eight-member girl group – consisting of Suyeon, Elly, Choi Yoo-jung, Kim Do-yeon, Sei, Lua, Rina, and Lucy – will release ‘CoinciDestiny’ as a “final goodbye” to fans. The accompanying caption reads, “Forever remembering us who shone brilliantly, met by chance and dreamed of fate.” ‘CoinciDestiny’ will be released on June 12 at 6 PM KST. Fantagio Music has not disclosed the exact reason for Weki Meki’s disbandment.
‘CoinciDestiny’ comes after several years of inactivity from the group. Their last release was the November 2021 mini-album ‘I Am Me’ led by the single ‘Siesta’. Since then, member Choi Yoo-jung made her solo debut in September 2022 with ‘Sunflower’. Member Elly also participated in Mnet’s Queendom Puzzle in 2023.
Weki Meki made their debut in August 2017, shortly after members Choi Yoo-jung and Kim Do-yeon concluded their activities with project girl group I.O.I. The pair had become part of the group through the first season of reality TV show Produce 101 alongside Chung Ha, Jeon Somi, Kim Se-jeong, and more.
In other K-pop news, BTS’ Jungkook has released a new fan-dedicated single titled ‘Never Let Go’ as part of the group’s yearly BTS Festa event. Their label Big Hit Music shared that the track is “a token of gratitude for the boundless love from ARMY (BTS’ fanbase) all over the world”.
