FermÃn was born in Pamplona around the year 272 and died in Amiens in 303. He was a devoted Christian missionary and became the first bishop of Amiens. While he is widely recognized as the patron of the San FermÃn Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, it is interesting to note that neither the bulls nor the bullfighting festivities existed during his lifetime. He was beheaded for his faith, and his memory is honored on July 7th each year during the Sanfermines, a festival famous for its bull runs.
MarÃa Romero Meneses, born in Granada, Nicaragua, in 1902, came from an affluent family but was deeply attuned to the needs of the poor. She joined the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in 1923 and became known for her remarkable social work in Costa Rica. Her efforts included setting up medical clinics, organizing free medical visits, and building homes for homeless families. Devoting her life to Marian devotion and assisting marginalized communities, she passed away on July 7, 1977.
Additionally, the celebrations today also mark the feast days of several notable figures. These include José MarÃa Gambaro, Willibaldo, Edda of Winchester, and Odón of Urgel.
Among the beatified individuals commemorated today are Pedro To Rot, Carlos Liviero, Oddino Barotti, Benedict XI (Nicolás Boccasini), Ifigenia of San Mateo de Gaillard de la Valdène, along with Rogelio Dickenson, Raúl Milner, and Lorenzo Humphrey.
